From Lake Constance to the mountains of Switzerland- incredible train ride on the Bernina express to Pontresina in Graubunden in the Engadine. Snow, mountains, below freezing winds and a trek to the Morteratsch glacier ( in our all purpose travel outfits) and an even more amazing train ride to Tirano, Italy were included in our brief sojourn to ...

We headed in to Tirano early today to go to the Tirano City Registry Office to try and get a copy of my Nonna & Nonno's birth certificate's and marriage certificate. The spoke no English, of course, so Dave had to pull out his best Italian and hit them with "Posso avere una copia del certificato di nascita." And they even understood him! Saw some really cool things along the way, like guys with big kite sails like they use on the Estuary, but with snow boards, cross country & down hill skiers, and footprints a million miles from anywhere on ...

... French. It was pleasant to hear all the different languages being spoken and it was even more satisfying in understanding at least one or two of them.

Inevitably, the food was great in Livigno, especially the pasta - I enjoyed the spaghetti the most. At the hotel they did do a traditional food night halfway through the week which included the most delicious venison stew and roast suckling pig! They also had ...

... a couple in a van that looked as if they were going to stop there, they must be crazy. We snaked our way down, passing people out skiing, sledging and using a large kite to pull them on a ski board, we don't know the correct name for this activity! The parking place we had chosen was in a small forested area, there was just a small amount of snow on the ground and it was a few degrees warmer than at the pass. After tea we made plans for ...
