I awaken to a gloomy sky and am thankful that I am heading out of the city today. I hop the metro to the bus station and make my way to the ancient capital of Veliko Tarnovo. A lovely journey through rolling farm hills covered in ripe wheat, sunflowers and a variety of other crops.

The weather is no better when I arrive in VT and make the 25 minute hike to my hostel in the rain as there are no taxi's to be found. I had chosen this hostel as it had advertised ...

After our long wait in Varna, we didn't get back to Veliko Tarnovo until 9 pm last night, so before we went to bed and conked out we didn't do anything apart from have a hot drink with F and R.

... the name of but was cooked and served in a clay pot. It was basically chicken stew with sliced tomato and mushrooms, with cottage cheese-like white cheese and a fried egg on top. With a dessert, the whole lot came to nearly 15 leva - just over 6! Everything is so cheap here.

... shaking your head in a wobbly fashion means yes. This explained many other instances of miscommunications we'd had in the past week when ordering food, and in a way it was very funny. We sat and ate kebapche (a Balkan staple consisting of a log of fried mince, which I'm pretty sure ihs the same as Serbian chevapcheche) and then prepared to find the Soviet-UFO everybody was talking about.
