Anyway, we finally got back to Misen and began our descent down at around 2:00pm. The trip home was much more solemn and much much quicker. We finally arrived back in Joju at around 4:30pm and virtually collapsed from exhaustion. We got back to the bottom of the rope-way at around 5:00pm, just in time to get tickets, share a few laughs and catch the 5:22pm bus back to Saijo, where we just barely caught the last train back to Hojo. We crashed and went to bed.
... concert at the castle, which I dragged myself out to see. Thankfully the rain had ceased and the castle was really lit up with lights and decorations. Caught some traditional kata music and there was a Shinto play at the top of the castle. It looked like an entire family participated, banging drums, dancing and bowing. There was a teenager who was spinning like a dervish with a tray of rice, which surprisingly he kept from flying off ...

Shikoku, Japan brianneinjapanIn Hiroshima I visited the famous or infamous Atomic Dome(ground zero August 1945)and learned a lot of interesting details. The first atomic bomb was detonated at 600 meters above the city to maximize its lethal potential. It resulted in over 140,000 deaths including 14,000 Koreans who were forced in to ...
HIROSHIMA, Japan sgaudun... or early for that matter). Also there has never been a Shinkansen accident. That is if you exclude the poor desperate soul who jumped in front of one somewhere the other day and was splattered fair and square on to the wind shield. Anyhoo, I settled back and enjoyed the consistent view of houses zipping past me, whilst sucking down a Marlboro Ultra Light (just because I was allowed to, but admittedly it was gross and weird smoking on a train). Was very relaxed and ...
Hiroshima, Japan andskye... of the grocery store parking lots and made our way over to the shrines. Brian talked to one of the shrine pullers, and he mentioned that the main event had already happened 2 hours prior, of which I forget, but he also mentioned that they would be pulling the Danjiri into the river the next day, which was supposed to be pretty spectacular. Dammit. We got our closer look, watched the last of them leave, and got back in ...
Saijo, Japan niknash... they tell story?" "You are like fisherman!" "You can tell everyone about 'The Day Gaijin Drove Car', and many ladies will know you are strong man." Saying farewell to zen master Nori, Masaki, and the Iya, I trained to the top of the island where wonderful wonderful Taeko was even waiting for me at the station in her town. I've been truly moved on occasion by Japanese hospitality - {like when I asked for directions from girl at 7-11, I ...
Shikoku, Japan mondobri... table was a jar full of free cigarettes and what looked like many little hair salons. At each mirror was a guy grooming himself by rubbing creams and lotions into his skin and then plucking his hair line and brushing his hair for what seemed an hour. Everyone seemed really friendly and those that could speak English dropped by to say ...
