Time at riverside
i first visited riverside holiday village in 2003, which i thoroughly enjoyed so we all decided to go back in 2006, to my disappointment our room was in bad condition, to which i was very dismayed, the overall cleanliness of the village had changed. the staff where not as friendly as the recent ones. and when it come to the nightlife the ranch bar was a morgue. im sorry riverside but your hotel has gone right down the drain which is such a shame as i really enjoyed my stay in 2003 but 2006 was a complete letdown. Th e mangagement need to take a serious look on how to make riverside a more friendly and busy village to stay in, as on a evening there is nothing to do, and alot of customers go else where for food and entertainment.
Good base for a Holiday
We stayed at the Riverside Holiday Village from the 8th - 15th April 2006. The holiday was booked direct with the hotel who also arranged flights and transfers at a very good price
Would rate the hotel as a good 3* by European standards.
We travelled with 6 in the party, 2 adults, 2 young children (2 & 4) and 2 seniors. The accommodation was of a very high standard. We had rooms 114 (2 bed roomed superior villa) and 115 ( 1 bed roomed superior villa). Both villas were very roomy and the fittings were like new. We booked the Riverside especially because the 2 bed roomed villa is ideal if you have children and from this point of view we were not disappointed.
The hotel facilities were good for children, especially the pool with the waterslides, but there was very limited area around the pool for the children to play. The hotel would benefit from having a playground for the kids to burn off energy.
The most disappointing part of the hotel was the food. We booked HB for convenience but felt a little let down with the choice of main meals, especially the non-meat options (wife is a veggie). There was an a la carte restaurant but this wasn't open in the evening.
However Kyrenia is only 20 mins drive away so I'd recommend hiring a car and booking bed & breakfast.
We hired a 7 seater car from the Hotel for 4 days and it was very easy and a decent price (£30 per day for a good condition Touran all inclusive of insurance). There are some fantastic beaches on the Island if you are prepared to explore (would recommend Turtle Beach to the east of Kyrenia..
Would definately go to North Cyprus again and would stay at the Riverside but only B&B
Very nice hotel in the nature
it was very good holiday for me.. hotel is not luxry but they have everything for holiday.. hotel emplyoyees are very good, service is very good and also food's are very nice... i rented a bicycle for 3 days and paid 20stg, area is very nice villages and peoples are very warm... there are so many restaurants and good markets around the hotel. their rooms are villas and they have all equipment for cooking in the room so if you want you can cook your own meal in your villa... they have indoor swiming pool and open air swiming pool, moreover they have small aqua park... during my holiday i used gym and sauna equipments were profesional... finally housekeeping service was very nice....
Visiting for a 4th time!!!
First impressions in October 2004 urged me to take a trip alone with my daughter in June 2005 and again in October 2005, when it was like a family reunion! So many people were there again who we knew it was amazing. The rooms are good and if not satisfactory you will be reallocated, the staff are very friendly. It is a family run village and the family regularly eat at the restaurant which is a very good sign, the food is excellent and always plenty of choice! Expect traditional Turkish cuisine, cooked breakfasts are not quite the English version! The staff are always willing to help if you have a picky food child. The only real downside is the gym a bit antiquated, massages are superb! Going back again in May so fingers crossed everything will be great again. My daughter won't go anywhere else loves the aqua park and picking fresh oranges etc. Not a place for after dinner entertainment so be prepared to take taxis, a mini bus takes you to Kyrenia and local beaches, returning about 3ish every day. A totally relaxing holiday, lots to do if you make the effort.
Holiday camp out of season
This looked like a good place for families in hot summer weather, but out of season and with few residents the property seemed rather drab and forlorn. The so-called superior villa allocated was shabby, with stained carpets, broken tiles and a barely adequate bathroom, and because it had not been occupied it was cold and uninviting. Moreover it was next to a farm and sleep was disturbed by animal noises. We had only one meal - breakfast - before moving elsewhere, and it was very plain indeed. I have no wish to criticise the hotel on the basis of one night's stay, and I must say that the management and staff were charming, but I am posting these comments because I think the travel brochures paint a rather optimistic picture and that this is not a good choice for singles, couples and seniors.
Peaceful winter week
January 1st in Northern Cyprus. Nice and sunny but the temp is a bit cool for winter week, however only about 10 mins rain so not too bad. Flight out on Cyprus Turkish airline was quite average and the food and service was good as long as you can put up with the 45 mins at Antalya for the next leg of 45 mins to Ercan next to Nicosia. The return was bearable but the food was not and on both journeys a bit noisy.
The Riverside villas were very spacious and with an upstairs and downstairs made a pleasant change from the one hotel room. We, wife, daughter and myself, had two with adjoining door and worked very well. We were on B&B and the kitchen area gave plenty of scope to make some more food if wanted but we ate out so no problems there. Staff at the restaurant were very friendly.
Up the hill from the villas was "The Farm" restaurant run by welsh couple, good grub.
Slightly down the hill, about 1/2k, was the "Amanchaya" with the headwaiter Ali. Excellent grub and Friday is "Line dancing" which was a good night.
The "Shanghai" on the way to Kyrenia on the right hand side was very good, and the "Pine Bay Club" on the left hand side towards Kyrenie (Girni) was good grub with excellent service and a first class sports bar with all the footie.
The car hire from Riverside was convenient and staff very helpful. A good long trip up the "panhandle" will take all day , there and back , but very interesting (watch out for the speed traps where the speed drops from 100k to 65km at junctions). I was advised but not booked probably because out of season for tourists.
Disappointing at Famagusta as not allowed to take any snaps of the damage etc and shopping in Nicosia was a dismal failure, more fun at Kyrenia.
My only gripe with the Riverside is that you have to pay for poolside extras (gym, sauna, hot tub etc), a bit of a rip off...
A good weeks break but didn't even get at t shirt (couldn't find one).
lovely place, friendly people, excellent beaches, excellent food. only problem after dinner no entertainment, boring
Excellent time at Riverside.
We have just returned from a 14 day trip to Riverside Village had an excellent time. Our apartment was superb plenty of room and spotlesly clean, the towels and bedding are changed every 2 days and nothing is to much trouble for the staff. We stayed B a B basis which was the best option as there were several local resteurants which offered good value food these being.
The Corner Resteurant,The Farmhouse,Achemenya and The Ranch these are not in any order of preferance.
Further a field a must resteurant is Ambiance which provides superb food and service,a major disappointment was Messina which does not live up to its reputation poor food, poor service then the bill is wrong to the tune of £16 for 2 people !!!.
A nice little bar to go to for those last drinks of the day is Friends Bar just next to the hotel.
To sum up the weather was fantastic 23/4/05 til 7/5/05 and we would not hesitate to go back to Riverside but next time we will take a torch as the roads are unlit and it gets a bit hairy walking back to the hotel after dark.
Excellent, fantastic, wonderful in Riverside!
Great for Relaxing
Visited the Riverside in the summer of August 2003. The complex is family run and produces all its own fruit and vegetables. There is a farm attached to the complex. Its about a 15 minute drive from kyrenia. Northern cyprus is an unspoilt part of the island of Cyprus. The rooms at the riverside are spacious and clean. You have to be a bit quick in the morning to get your towels at the pool loungers. We got round this by going to a local beach called Sunset Beach there is courtesy transport laid on. Sunset beach has a restaurant and when we visited there were fewer than half a dozen people using the pool and loungers all free of charge as long as you buy a drink or a bite to eat. Riverside itself has a good Resaturant and poolside bar. They also put on specisl local themed evenings which are free if you are half board. The accomodation is very cheap ------------------------------------------. the only downside is at the you have to Fly in via Turkey. We anjoyed our two weeks very relaxing and very hot around 40C. Would recommend to couples of any age and families. Riverside also has tennis courts and horse riding. The local Restaurants are great particularly the Farmhouse just 2 minutes walk away graet family atmosphere. Will be going back in 2005

... many great meals out here but this is up there with the very best. The cost an amazing 120TL (£30) which included glass of wine for Sarah, coke for the driver and a bottle of water. Best value for money ever! So word of warning...if you come and visit us you will be going here for a meal! Left just after midnight and drove home, lovely cup of turkish coffee and small shot of hazlenut vodka to round off the birthdays. Another late night as we went up to bed at 1am after a lovely day.
