      ... my stop for the night) the landscape turns to flat fields (with lots of limestone karsts in the background) and small villages. Its another long leg with a few stops along the way to explore dirt tracks and where they lead to (with a little fear of wandering too far off the track due to landmines). Konglor is surrounded on three sides by limestone karsts that loom over you as you ride the long access road in. It mesmerises you.... Im itching to explore the small villages ...

      ... cave and we planned to meet up again there. Well talk about hard work to find. Heading back towards the main road from Buddha Cave you take the turnoff heading to a national park and drive for around 20kms. We came to a sign that
      indicated turn right for a Stupa and it said the cave also but it had been blackened out with marker, a local heading past pointed at us to go down that road. We arrived at the Stupa but couldn't see any other roads ...

      ... tree trunks sticking out of the misty water - especially as we were climbing higher into the mountains so it was getting both colder and darker.

      We arrived in Thalang and found the guesthouse recommended by the bike rental company - it was our most basic accommodation yet consisting of a wooden bungalow overlooking the artificial lake.       ... with flooded land and dead trees everywhere. Just when we thought we must have got lost on the only road there was, we saw a sign for Sabaidee Guesthouse in 6km and made it just before dark at around 5pm. For 60,000 kip (a fiver) we stayed and then had a great BBQ and beers chatting with the other 10 people staying, and a very late night for us at 11:30pm!

      Early start for day 2 at 8:30am as we were told it would take us 4 hours to do the 60km to Lashao, ...

      Late to bed and early to rise...Sucks!

      ... down a tuk-tuk to take us to a guesthouse (which we had smartly pre-booked) but on arrival, the whole thing was locked up. Argh! We had to make a lot of noise and be overly persistent to a guy with little English that kept waving us away. Luckily he eventually let us in and we made our way up to our room to happily pass out, knowing we had to be up again in a few hours ...
