Scenic drive along the river
... not as far as Portland but to the Island in the middle called Hayden Island and checked into the campsite there. Once checked in, we drove over to Safeways to get a few more supplies and then headed back to cook dinner. After a nice warm chilli, we relaxed, showered and watched the first episode of the final series of Hustle. Then it was time for bed and as we curled up under the duvet we hoped the rain would stop soon.

Small town excitement!
Prosser Washington is a little town that sits along the Yakima river and is nestled under the Horse Heaven Hills. The area is rural and traditionally was dry-land wheat farming country. Within the last few decades it has been irrigated as part of the Columbia Basin Project and now is a major producer of wine grapes, fruits, and produce.The trip from Seattle to Prosser takes about 4 hrs if you dont stop and wander like I typically do. What a GREAT place to rest...
We got a pretty early start today, for a couple of retired folks, anyway. Our first stop was just about three miles west, the Bonneville Dam. There are actually two dams, I've learned, with the second constructed due to the high demand for electricity. I do remember as a kid, learning that the power for a local chemical plant near Butte, where I grew up, came from Bonneville. (Now, that's a circuitous sentence!}
