Our second rest day today and zero walking miles. We have however travelled several hundred. Last night after finishing in Haltwhistle, we jumped in a taxi and headed for the airport, catching the last flight to Heathrow. Our aim, to surprise Lucy. Both Rob and I have been very conscious that our walk has rather distracted from the fact that Lucy ...

... up in Haltwhistle) so, after a quick lunch, we bade Peter goodbye, hopeful that we will together again in the next week or two. We started walking west along the wall. Those of you who have done it before, will know that this walk is deceptive. You anticipate that being a wall, it will be a level walk. Our regret has been that due to the need to keep moving, we have rarely been able to stop and enjoy it fully. But as I think Rosie commented..."But now you know what to come back for!" But our real pleasure has been the people. With all the debate about independence, I expected some reaction occasionally to two home counties boys especially in the ...

... very wet. We did give up on the idea of crossing the river to see Dryburgh (not an apt name today) and pressed on to St Boswell's. Once there we headed to the Buccleuh Arms. We sent Rob in ahead to plead our case....very wet and bedraggled.... can we come and dry off in your bistro... oh by the way... can we eat our own sandwiches?.... Amazingly "Yes" came back the reply!! After lunch, the weather suddenly abated. As we set ...
