We've turned back across the Mississippi to Hampton, Illinois to spend the night at a delightful county-supported recreational facility. With our senior discount, we paid $16 for the pleasure of watching the river flow by our front door. The 'water is wide, I cannot cross over'...but we will take a bridge over the muddy waters tomorrow for our first stop at the Herbert Hoover presidential library.
We got up in the morning and were hooked up to wifi for the first time! While it was great to get connected, it was kind of cool being cut off from the world for a while:). We updated the blog, got our new phone working (my mom has the number should anyone need it) and got ready for the day.
We had a day off from driving and decided to take Carson somewhere fun. There is a new place in Davenport called the Putnam Center and ...
... it meant that we somehow resembled terrorists and were told to pull to a secondary checkpoint where a nice young guard simply scanned our vehicle and sent us on our way. No complete search (thank God, because we didn’t know how we were going to fit everything back in)!
We hit the Welcome Centre just as it was closing and as we were behind schedule, we decided to stay in mid Michigan at a place called Metamora-Hadley State Park 45 minutes from the border. ...
... and Davenport and Bettendorf in Iowa. All the cities are riverfront cities on the Mississippi River. We visited all four cities.
In Davenport we visited The Palmer College of Chiropractic. There was a museum set up on several floors of the main building that told the history of Chiropractic practice. It actually goes back thousands of years. Daniel David Palmer was the founder of Chiropractic and began teaching it in 1895. Over the first ...
