Surprisingly, I am the first person in my family to undertake a serious genealogical endeavor. Those who are interested have probably said, "Why bother? What is there to learn? They left for a reason, and why should I go back? My life is here now" and so on. The elders wanted to forget. They did not talk much about the past.

Arrived at the Port of Miami around 1:30 and after an hour and a half we successfully made it through all of the security check points and on to the ship. I knew the ship would be big but it is really massive. We found our room and started to exploring. I am hoping to have buns of steel by the end of the trip by taking the stairs everywhere. ;) If you want to check out the ships deck plans go to Carnival Valor. Unfortunately, it's one of those places that do it for you and charge by the weight...hmm...not entirely happy about someone else washing my smalls and I have a feeling this will cost me a fortune. Oh well, I was not advised of any alternative Coin Op so this will have to do. I head back to the hostel to do my planning (ie find somewhere to stay in Savannah...where I will be in less than a week). However, this being Miami and considering the weather...my planning ...

... the beach from just past the Ritz-Carlton, then walked along the cafe region of the street and picked out a restaurant. Nearly all of them will heckle you, and none expect repeat/return customers... just be wary of that! However most will do 2-4-1 cocktails (be careful it's PER PERSON).

After dinner we walked back to Washington and 3rd St from Lincoln Rd which probably took us about 30mins. The hostel bar is pretty busy at night.
