... our headlamps (that were now kept in the backpacks) and walked back toward the caves. We only spent 10 min there so we didn’t have time to explore much but there were a couple of tunnels that went back farther. After we got back in the car I read my notes and saw that glow worms were supposed to be in there. Darn. We didn’t look. Oh well, hopefully we’ll see them in Fox Glacier.

... going to be a clear sunny day! Over 22km and 8 hours later we finished the hike all exhausted and soaked so we decided to treat ourselves to food out at burger fuel, New Zealand's most popular burger chain. The next day we left Taupo early and headed to river valley lodge- a stopover in the middle of nowhere which had some amazing scenery and some people did white water rafting whilst most of the group just recovered from the walk the day before.     ... after him! The night consisted of dancing on pool tables, playing drinking games, rolling in at 5am & being cooked a fry up by the Kiwi bus drivers in their room! Ray was also my pretend boyfriend for the evening, whenever a weird local with a mullet came over he'd put his arm around me & say "Oi are you coming onto my girlfriend?" ...

... br> When we arrived here at Westport the fog had lifted somewhat but we soon noticed a smell permeating our van. It was coming from the coal fired furnace heating our hot water at the camp ground… horrible! Now again this evening the fog/smog has resettled; very dense.

We decided to blow the budget and eat out for the first time since starting our journey and had a lovely dinner in town ...
