... an area much bigger then present-day Cambodia.

From all of the above mentioned kingdoms (except Ayutthaya) I have visited UNESCO world heritage sites. It is fascinating to see all these places along my trip because it feels like putting a big puzzle together. This way, it is much easier to interlink history of a region that was not part of my school education.

... We went over to the northern one first where Wat Si Chum was, it's in the lonely planet book - a huge Buddha inside a stone room with no roof, it's pretty cool when you see it! They're all pretty awesome even though they're ruins, to think how old they are and how long it must have taken to build these things! This history goes back to when this country was in it's peak, at the same time our country was going through the Black Plague. Crazy how roles reverse all the time ...

... a few hours looking around. We had a slight hiccup to begin with as the map we were given didn't seem to make any sense- not even when turned upside down, around and around or inside out! Eventually, we realised the guy who'd given us the map had pointed us in the wrong direction. Once we eventually figured this out we were fine. ... so we rented a bicycle to get around. Wat Phra Mahatat was our first stop, and home to the head of a Buddha statue that has become trapped inside the roots of a tree. We cycled around the city and went to more of the ruins but they didn’t seem quite as impressive as Sukhotai, perhaps because they were more spread out.

In the late afternoon, we went to the bus stop and got on a bus to the current capital of Thailand - Bangkok. ...

... the fact it is here so cheap and there are a lot of ATM's makes travelling so easy going. Food is good, diverse, and fresh prepared. Only the beds in the hostels were we sleep are bloody hard. After 3 hours we went off from the train in Phitsanulok were we stept into a tuk tuk which brought us to the bus terminal in the city.
