I'll just make some brief notes about our return trip to home base. We make an early start to the airport for our departure. There are several stages to get to the gate: terminal security, U.S. pre-clearance, a 2nd security check. But it’s nice to be able to get it all done at the start. This means no customs check at JFK. One recommendation I would make to others for a morning departure: arrive a half hour earlier than necessary ...
