Durban, Sani Pass and then back to Jo'burg

... t know how to read, let alone write! I saw one little girl which stood amongst a group of five kids which were smiling and waving at us as we drove past – Murray explained she had a bad ear infection which went untreated and you could see half of her face had become swollen. I admit I made me sick and sad to see such life, there I was a few days ago hanging out in a shopping mall and then to be face to face to that... it certainly was a shock! It makes supposed 'issues ...

... walk from the lodge, and when we arrived it was in a bit of a disarray. The hay from the ceiling was everywhere and the beds were unmade. We were too tired to care, and after dropping our bags off, we headed to the warm lodge to have a drink at the bar.

When we arrived we were excited to find a TV with a wide selection of DVDs. We found season 2 of Dexter and decided to watch it. The bartender, Garreth, decided to join us. We were ...

... dinners every night. The pasta roller got dusted off, and lasagne was made from one of the nights. Damn tasty, I must say! Crumbed chicken, and cottage pies were also made, this week. Dinners all week again next week, so the weekend off, from cooking. Having said that, we are braaing tommorrow, with a huge steak, a donated wors from the butcher, and some pork rashers, for starters. I must say, the Underberg Butchery does sell ...

... small river with crystal clear water was a nice invitation for a refreshing bath before we went back to our accommodation. The rest of the day was filled with mountain watching and later star gazing. http://www.countryroads.co.za/content/g iants-castle.html

Drakensberg Mountains

... doubts for all, with me resting and gasping for breath every 20 minutes - but I somehow got over it, found my rhythm and stride and set forth to conquer the climb! The wind was howling, it was hot and dusty and as we got further and further up, the path tended to become very narrow with horrible drops into nowhere below being a constant reminder to stay focussed We eventually got to the final rockface where we had to negotiate two ...

Sani Pass to the highest pub in Africa

... got a sip. But that didn't really bother me. I bought a can for a souvenir which I am enjoying right now. Ahhhh! Maluti, brewed from the finest malted barley, maize, hops and water in the Mountain Kingdom. Apparently you can rent quad bikes to drive up the pass if you don't have or want to drive your own car. That might not be too bad of a way to go as it was only one car wide in some spots and could make you pretty ...

Me and Ghandi in Pietermaritzburg or PMB for short

... good backpacker places I have been to. Kelvin, the owner, makes some delicious food! PMB is an enjoyable city, but a city not many backpackers take the time to visit. Does not have anything BIG to offer, but still very pleasant place to spend a few days. A Basque group checked in to the hostel, and I ended up playing Scrabble in spanish. And my spanish is very limited at this point of time. But fun to do, and I ended ...

... next to his machine (which was pouring oil out of the sump). [ It seems that some of the large rocks had been just to big, and in our wisdom, we had not hardened his front suspension for the trip down. There were, i regret to say, some choice words uttered from myself and Terence!! Here we were now, 20KM from Vic's house, and only 1 bike to ride. We did the only thing possible (with ...

Inkosana Lodge - A decent backpackers

Click here for all Drakensberg photos Left the Amphitheatre Backpackers not too impressed with the place. We felt once we decided to do the Amphitheatre hike alone they weren't too helpful and their kitchen was filthy. We got on the road to Inkosana Lodge in the central ...

Welcome to Drakensberg

... a nature park, across 60 km of dirt road, which turned into marshmallow with 3 drops of rain. You'll have to trust me on this, but it was like driving on snow, and after having to clear an inch of mud off each wheel of the corolla, in the dark, with roadside rocks... well, sense of humour failure was close. Forgive me for not photographing the near-wreckage, but both the corolla and us returned to the Himeville arms filthy, but undamaged.
