Historical Traveler Reviews of Riu Palace Oceana Hammamet
Für ein 4-Sterne Hotel war es in Ordnung, aber es ist kein 5-Sterne Hotel
from DavidSW18
Good but could improve

Very good hotel, staff etc.
However, food standards have dropped since I was last there in October. Not 5 star. I think that they are aware of the problem so hopefully will improve.
The fairly new manager would do well to talk and listen to the guests.
Fantastic Hotel!! Excellent Service. Truly 5 star.

We stayed a week at the Riu palace in September.
From the moment we set foot in the hotel the staff were extremely attentative, friendly and helpful.
Our room was very spacious and clean and we had a very large balcony with excellent views. The cleaning staff did an excellent job and decorated the bed and bath with rose petals.
The hotel itself was massive, with a grand lobby and lovely cocktail bar. We were waited on hand and foot by the attentitive staff. There was a wellness center offering a wide variety of treatments and within the hotel there was also a newsagents, jewellry shop and a couple of gift shops.
Breakfast was buffet style, offering a wide choice of traditional and european foods. Dinner was again a buffet but was excellent with a variety of delicious, expertly prepared local and international dishes. The friendly restaurant staff could simply not do enough for you, from carrying your plate to the table, to checking if all our needs were met. I would not however reccoemend the al la carte dinner (a paying extra if on half board) as i personally didnt find it too far removed from the quality of the food from the buffet.
The Beach was immaculate and we felt safe and ecure as there was a hotel security guard that was helpful in fending off local people trying to press you to ride on their horse/camel. The bar on the beach was excellent as was the watersports facilities next door offering jet-skiing (a must!) paragliding, banana boats etc.
The pool area had plenty of sun loungers and parasols. The attendant would not let you lift a finger if you needed a parasol, table or chair. There was a ticketing system for towels (which was a little confusing at first) however it was to ensure that room towels did not get dirty. The pool was very large and well maintained as was the beautiful grounds it was situated in.
The daytime orientation hotel staff were very friendly and arranged a regular timetable of different activities from water aerobics to volleyball.
There were alot of german and french tourists in the hotel when we visited and only a few english families/couples however everyone, regardless of the language barriers seemed to chat with each other and take part in the various activities.
The local cats that visited the entrance were adorable (though probably wouldnt touch them) and after chatting to several other english guests we discovered they were being very fell fed by the British tourists!
In all, this was an excellent hotel ideal for people wishing for a quiet, relaxing retreat (it was a short distance to the nearest busy town). The helpful staff and the clean, well maintained hotel and grounds made it a truly luxurious holiday. My only slight criticism is that perhaps there could be a slightly more varied evening entertainment programme however this did not mar our experience. I would reccommend taking a sea view balcony to take advantage of the fantastic views. I also noticed that sound from a nearby hotel disco could sometimes be heard from the back of the hotel at night.
Definately would go back to the Riu Palace on my next trip to Tunisia!
Nice holiday

Just been to tunisia stayed in Riu Palace Oceana, over the bank holiday, our first impression about hotel was good, its really a nice hotel, very clean, we had sea view room so it was beautiful..
Hotel staff is very friendly and helping. pool and beach very clean and service was good and fast, Food:- Breakfast was buffet, and in lunch there were not much choices, dinner was again buffet, but menu was written in french or german, well most of the hotel guest were french or german only, so hardly see people talking in english, Been Yasmine hammamet, its not a big place but you can go around marine drive and there is a place called Carthage Island where we went had dinner also quite few good restaurant, did shopping there but you should be good in bargain which they call Haggle there, but we did pretty good. and near place to go in Hammamet taxis are cheap,
Entertainment ; In the night they use to play music and u can sit there near the bar and have drink but it was bit boring... and as such nothing much you can do in night, but hotel is good for families having kids.
If go Tunisia again we will be going to RIu..

My wife and I have just spent a week at the Oceana with Thompsons and had an excellent time, the service was 100%,cleanliness 100% and the food in both the self service and A la Carte was very good the only criticism I have is that some of the descriptions of the food on the Buffet was not in English only in French,Tunisian and German.
The hotel is a bit isolated but the Taxi's are very cheap and efficient.
The entertainment was not bad at least it was not loud and we did not hear the Disco noise that has been reported.
I spent some time by the Pool and on the Beach and both were 1st Class.
We will return to this hotel very soon.
Great hotel - some negatives
from A TripAdvisor Member
Rooms lovely, clean and spacious. Didnt have pool/sea view room but view pleasant enough looking over gardens and the coast towards Hammermet. Staff very friendly, helpful and attentive. Great situation leading on to a clean sandy beach. Food generally good - although evening dinner had a slightly 'holiday camp' feel about it (eg set seats, two sittings). Lunchtime bistro menu a bit limited. Tunisian wine excellent and very reasonably priced. Pool and beach service excellent.
Evening entertainment definitely 2* only. Not much to do - Jasmime Hammermet is a five minute taxi drive away and was dead as a dodo at this time of year - the One Man and his Hammond Organ show in the hotel was definitely entertaining no one at all.
late night time noise from nearby open air discos was very apparent even at this quieter time of year.
very enjoyable visit. would probably consider going again. however hotel probably deserves 4 star status only.
Sad to go home!

OK it was the end of January, so the hotel was only about 20% full, but if anything it increased the enjoyment. Only the most senior staff were there- we were served by the head waiter and cooked for by the head chef. The cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in.Anywhere.Food very varied and beautifully served and presented. Handy taxi ride to the local town, also the railway station for longer trips to anywhere else such as Tunis and Sousse. Taxi to station about £2.50, and return rail ticket to Tunis(60km each way) about £7.50. Staff unusually helpful and friendly.
Will return there.
Ok for a 4 star, not a 5 star
from DavidSW18
We had planned to stay for a week, but we left after 3 days to check into the Hasdrubal (a real 5 star). The Oceana is ok, but very dated and doesn't have 5 star service etc.
The rooms are big, but need updating.
The food was very good though.
If you're looking for luxury, go elsewhere
Great hotel sad about the disco
from pretty woman 1
This hotel is excellent- food great. rooms large and kept very clean, the whole hotel was exceptionally clean and hygienic -the first time I have not been ill when away. The staff were efficient and friendly, however the noise from the local disco was so loud it kept us awake and went on until 4.0 am.
This apparently only happens during July and August so I recommend not going at this time.
Chill out at the Oceana
from GILLChesterfield
We were both stressed, tired and so in need of a break you would not believe ! We only had a week to unwind and the brouchure pictures of the Oceana Hammamet won me over. We booked a sea view room which was well worth the supplement. The room was huge with seating area, seperate dressing area, bathroom with shower and a bath(most usefull) but the best bit was the balcony with a view so fabulous that the picture we took is currently searving as the wallpaper for our PC !
As for the rest of the hotel..
The staff were more than helpfull and good english speakers. The food was plentifull of good quality and varied ( it had to be there were so many different nationalities staying there ).
The big surprise of the trip was the quality of Tunisian wine, on a par with good Spanish/Aussie we felt obliged to try lots of it, for research purposes of course !!
The pool area was clean and inviting although a little cold in April but that didn't matter as the beach was only footsteps away and so was the indoor pool.
Minus points ? French Champagne is VERY expensive but I'm just being picky now ! Go on, if you you want to forget the world for a week it's worth a visit.
