Day 12 - Rest

... roads culminating in a long climb through air I can only describe as thick and hot, much like it feels in a sauna. Fortunately this road led me to a brilliant campsite on the banks of a glistening turquoise lake, they must put something in the water because lakes in the Pyrenees are so green. I set up camp that night feeling content in the knowledge I was staying two nights.

On Monday I spent the day much as if I was on a 'normal ...

The works of Antoni Gaudi & Paella

... were to head to my favourite part of town "la Rambla and the old city quarter." The plan was to sample a typical Catalan dish called Paella. Paella can be made form a combination of rice with many kinds of meat, but the best of combination is to have Paella with sea food. I liked this new dish as well that I tried in Barcelona and was also my first time at eating a mix of sea food like shrimp, prawn and molluscs. Anyway that was the end of another day....

... he pulls back in fear. He is genuinely scared. Even an attempt at bribery from me (a chance to play on his Nintendo DS later tonight) doesn't help. He eventually just throws the coin in the general direction of the black box before running back to mom. Such a precious little guy. Other notable winners for the kids were The Invisible Man (Sam figured out the gig within 1 minute saying, "Dad, thats just a short guy hiding in the shirt!"), ... and the biggest favorite of the ...

Birthdaying in Barcelona

... After nine months on the road we looked like something the cat dragged in, with our faded and ripped clothing. Barcelona was the first place where I really wished I had something nice to wear. The most amusing thing we saw on day one was a confectionery shop called Happy Pills which had on the wall a recipe for happiness. The largest component at 9% was a goal in the last minute but at 8% was substance of John Cleese, whatever that is. The second funny ...

I headed for Pl St Jaume - the heart of the city once the center of the Roman fort from which Barcelona grew..some acrobats were making a human tower there...so I stopped to watch....i had thought about a bike tour which leaves from this placa however feeling lazy I carried on walking. Barcelona

... But even just yesterday I caught myself reading my emails from Chile (which was now over 2 years ago) and can waste hours doing so. Maybe I’m just lazy and instead of trying to remember these stories to tell my grandkids I can just send them an email attachment (although I’m sure by then email will be SO uncool) Ok so, I’ve just wasted a paragraph when I have pages to write…so sorry. On to business in Barcelona!!

So, while my ...

Located in the north of the city, it is easily reachable by metro (L3, stop Zona Universitaria) or even take the Touristic Bus which stops right in front of the Camp Nou . With 100 000 places, Camp Nou is Europe 's biggest stadium. Museum's visit is a really popular attraction, with over one million visitors every year. The visit ...

... Sagrada Familia, with its unfinished, massive spires straining for heaven. There're to be thirteen spires when it is finished: twelve for the disciples and a much taller one to represent Christ. It's not just the scale of the building which amazes, but also the uniqueness of the statues, the massive doors with their raised writing, and the glowing stained glass windows. It seemed that the ...

... the way home we wandered up La Ramblas for a bit with me lagging behind. Right before I got there, a fellow came out from the side of the street and put his arm around me. Disgusted, I pushed him off and kept walking, feeling pretty good about myself. After about 20 feet I instinctively felt my back pocket. My wallet was gone. Disappeared magically. Whirling around I ran back to try and find the guy, but wouldn't you know....I forgot his face completely! He perfectly ...

Barcelona Day 1 and 2

... to do a little more research on this topic, but I am very intrigued. As you can all tell, I am very inspired by this road trip. This is where the real fun has been for me. Lots of food, art, scenery, history, and foreign languages. It has been the perfect mix for me. I have enjoyed almost everything so far and don't want the experience to end. What a great time. This is what I saved my money for, not to hop buses and trains endlessly to get nowhere! This is REAL CULTURE.
