The Esplanade Strahan, Tasmania, Australia, 7468
... Tasmania's windiest road, through hills and across a beautiful lake with blue water as smooth as glass, to the Franklin River. There we went on a walk to see the raging river with its white water and the beautiful surrounding forests with tall trees and little red mushrooms growing everywhere. We drove through more spectacular scenery. seeing nobody, to lake St Clair, where we had lunch. On arrival we saw a very cute wombat munching on the grass. The lake was beautiful. The ...
Strahan, Tasmania, Australia angela_louise... Penguin.
I pulled into Strahan just past six. Srahan looks like a town under construction, trying to find itself. Not sure just how pretentious to be.
The “hostel” was nothing fantastic and was quite over-priced. And quite empty; I got a room to myself.
Out of loneliness I forced myself into a conversation with the few others that were in the hostel's kitchen. I love backpackers. They are your best friends ...
... The Ship That Never Was" is a very clever and entertaining show about 10 convict ship builders from Sarah Island who stole the Fredrick, the last boat ever built on the island. Instead of delivering the boat to Port Arthur, they made it to Chile! There are only ever two actors on stage; the other characters are procured from the audience. Hogarth Falls is just one of 60 "Great Short Walks" that are advertised all over Tassie. We can't get over the beautiful mosses that grow in this state.
Strahan, Tasmania, Australia pops4... but on the fence. I decided I was in. If anything, we could always turn around. We all kept going. For the next few hours, my body remained in fight or flight. I had to stop and breath deeply several times and talk myself into going farther. The rocks were bigger, the trail steeper, and everything wetter. Plus, the dark cloud was still hovering and dropping snow on and off. The day before, I read this story of a plane ...
Strahan, Australia annatee... The previous day I met a lovely older couple in Gowrie Park that was camping with their two young kids. The man gave me some great advice about places we had to see and things we had to do so we were first led to Nelson Falls. A short 20 minute return walk to slow falling, high waterfalls. There was nobody there but us and it was so beautiful. Then we went on to do a bushwalk to Donaghy's Lookout in a National Park. We saw the Franklin River and the mesmerizing white- quart size ...

Strahan, Tasmania, Australia hbomb1... world, be warned, after a night in Queenstown, we now cum wi unwanted baggage! We sheltered in the safety of our hotel room, reading stuff and playing on our laptop. It got to about 5:30 when 2 buses of old people arrived on one of those Club 80-90holidays. We found ourselves in a right pickle: Do we go and catch SARS in the village, or pay the rip off price to dine with biddies? Hmmm, a conundrum indeed! We came up with a ...
Queenstown, Australia ozzy2006... hostel' more like bunkhouses with a communal kitchen, the nights got very cold so we were glad of the log fire. I had a go at chopping up the logs for the fire, comical stuff but I still have all my toes. First evening we were visited by the local possum gang, trying to get food from the kitchen. These lot aren't scared of humans at all, they look so cute you just want to pick them up but I imagine they bite pretty hard so we ...
Cradle Mountian National Park, Australia fullcycle... France has had a bad effect on me! Anyway, I headed up the East coast - the much drier half of Tasmania (600mm of rain each year compared with 2400mm on the West Coast) to take a look at Wineglass Bay. It was a relatively short hike up a mountain and then a very stunning view. On the way their I saw what looked like Southern Right Whales in the bay as well. After Wineglass Bay I headed further north and west to Tasmania's second city, Launcesten with plans to ...
