Alan is well on his way to Cramlington this morning, making it to Northallerton by 10:20am. Unfortunately after the weekend's heatwave, Alan is now suffering with extreme heat and sunburn.

The drive to York was very picturesque, through Robin Hood country - we apparently drove through Sherwood Forrest but I don't think much is left of it - used to build villages and cities I'd say! We did a small detour off the motorway to find somewhere to have our picnic lunch. ... we had tea in a house built in 1680, yesterday we walked on the 14th century York walls and today we visited a 1712 house. So, when Captain Cook arrived in Australia in 1770, I can better understand why he claimed it, and thought it was empty.
We leave England tomorrow, taking a ferry from Hull to Rotterdam. We've been in the UK and Ireland for a total of about 3 months, and we've loved it all - the beauty, the culture, the food, and the people.
