      HADRIAN'S WALL

Driving to York today with Ruth and Charlie we stopped to view Hadrian's Wall at two locations. Maps 1-2. An 83 year old woman riding nearby said that on a clear day you can see it to the horizon. Running virtually from coast to coast we realise the Romans were making a serious effort to keep the Scots out of their domain. Not a lot has changed in 2000 years has it. We are still building walls either virtually or in other ways to keep others out. Thanks to Charlie for the long ...

The exhibition showed the kind of people that lived here and how they lived their lives. No pictures of the tour allowed, but there are some of the exhibition. - The York ...

We then went to the York museum, which was recommended by Lonely Planet due to the huge number of roman artefacts found. The museum contains items from the Bronze Age, to roman occupation, the Vikings and medieval times. A lot of the items have been found around burial sites. We then went for a walk around the streets ...

      Long Road to York

A travel blog entry by kyliep on Nov 05, 2014

Today we had a long drive south to our last stop, York. We didn't have much time to stop along the way to see anything very exciting. The journey was made even longer by roadworks going on along the motor way. We had a quick stop for lunch before getting to York. Our main job for the day was finding a post office to send a box back to Australia with our shopping. We've been told that unless we ...

So, the Whole World Voyage of 2014; how was it for us and did it meet our expectations? Overall it was a great experience and, yes it did meet our expectations. We were away for four months and maybe this was fractionally long, after about 3 months we did start to think 'it would be nice if we were home now'. Not that we were ever bored and the days certainly passed quickly. We enjoyed the experience of seeing new places; including Cape Town, all the major Australian ...
