Thanksgiving...Spanish style

... were able to see the beauty of the Alhambra. The palace was gorgeous and intricately decorated with interesting shapes and tiles. Though Scott and I enjoyed our time there very much, it was interesting to see the look on Torrey's face as she walked though the palace, a look of sheer awe. Its times like these that I wish I knew more about architecture and how it works because although the palace was beautiful, Torrey seemed to appreciate its awesomeness much more so ...

Accion de Gracias

Today was Thanksgiving back in the US, or as the Spaniards call it, Accion de Gracias. First of all, I would like to say that I am impressed by how much the Spaniards know about the United States. I called home and I told my mom that the Spaniards know about Thanksgiving and my mom was surprised that they know about it, and also how she doesn't know of any Spanish holidays. I've lived here for over two months and I still barely know ...

Thanksgiving in Frigiliana

... was perched almost on the top of the mountain. Upon arriving in Frigiliana by bus, we had to hike through the entire village and then take another 600 steps up the steep side of the mountain. It afforded us beautiful views, incredible peace and quiet, and plenty of exercise. Avocado, olive, lemon, and orange trees surrounded the area. It was a wonderful place to rest and relax during Thanksgiving week.

a day at the beach...

... Nerja is a more populated beach town. The Balcon de Europa is a scenic tourist spot in town with a square, shops, restaurants, bars, etc. We headed there and walked around a bit. Mike asked around and we found an amazing place for dinner - Meson de Antonio. The food was so good. The place was packed so we knew it had to be good. We called it a night and got back to watch another movie on mike's laptop. So far we're loving the beach area.

To Nerja We Go!!!

... the beach, it had this great boardwalk separating the restaurants and hotels from the sand. It was great to just walk on and enjoy the view. The beaches here are typical European beaches, with women topless and men in speedos and lots of PDA (Public Display of Affection). No, not a nude beach, but all very typical to see at all the beaches around here. We laid out for a bit and enjoyed the sun until the clouds covered for awhile and then ...

Martes el 13!!

... through the mountains, kind of like into a small pathway between both mountains!! It was soo breath taking and just a great landscape to run to!!! I loved it!!! Lunch today was a soup that is famous among the monks in Granada, made with garbanzo beans, and what looked like onions, but didnt taste much like them, so I'm really not to sure!! It was very good though!! Guadalupe and I talked about superstitions and ...

Tapas!!

I have decided that tapas are the greatest invention ever!!! It cant get much better to get a total of 3 drinks and 3 tapas for a wopping total of 5 euros!!! How awesome is that!!! Friday night I went to school to watch some Tango dancing and guitar playing with a couple friends, Colette and Julie!! It was very cool to see. The tango is a lot more detailed than I imagined it to be!!! A lot of small steps and movements!! Then we went out to ...

Finally Here

... sweet old ladies who made sure over the duration of the flight that I knew all of the finer points of traveling in England and drinking wine all over Europe. Each were quite nice, and I was soooo glad that I didn't end up stuck between a smelly or fat old man who didn't understand the concept of personal space. But the flight was delayed in landing, and ended up arriving and unloading 25 minutes late. Therefore ...

Traveling with a Friend

This week my friend Kelly McFadden from Oxford visited for five days. It was really wonderful to have someone to show around Granada and to take off and travel with. The afternoon we arrived we had a lunch of paella with the family. This was quite a cultural experience for Kelly, although, as usual, Angeles and family were fantastic. That evening we visited a couple tapas bars and called it an early night to prepare for our journey the next day ...

Granada

... by a lush river valley below. The highlight was definitely the Alcazar, a fairy tale style castle perched at the end of the cliff overlooking the hills and valley. Granada is a city in southern Spain with the Sierra Nevada mountains on the horizon, famous for its Moorish Alhambra palace. I arrived in Granada after a six hour bus ride from Madrid not really sure where my hostel was, but booked after favourable ...
