Bus back to Quito
Apr 5, 2008

Arrive back in Quito after an 11 hour ride after being stitched up by a Spanish couple- paying the price for not speaking Spanish!

We have flown to Ecuador
Mar 27, 2008

Arrived at high altitude for the first time on this trip! Arrived in Quito yesterday at 2850m, and it really is noticeable. My contact lense solution squirted out like an oil strike when I opened the bottle because the air lacks so much pressure. Noticeably harder to climb stairs, and reading out loud I can`t get to the end of sentences without ...

Quito to Papallacta
Mar 24, 2008 (2 photos)

Quito was such a pleasant surprise after Santiago. It is a safe, colourful and vibrant city tucked into the Andes at 2,850m above sea level. The New Town is full of quirky restaurants and cafes, while the Old Town contains some incredible cathedrals and historical buildings. We visited the Old Town on Good Friday, only to be swamped by thousands...

Quito - Capital of Ecuador
Mar 5, 2008 (3 photos)

To get to Quito in Ecuador, I flew with LAN, by far the best airline in South America flying with brand new Airbus 320. The first flight (only 35min) from Mendoza to Santiago de Chile was of course a must as it crossed the Cordillera de Los Andes with great views of the mountains. Then it was on to Ecuador, we departed ontime in Santiago but did...

It's true!
Feb 27, 2008 (11 photos)

Quito It's all true! Water flows vertically down the drain without swirling when you stand on the equator. We witnessed this truth at the greatest little museum in Quito which sits exactly on the line. A portable sink is used to explain this phenomenon, and by moving it to the north of the equator, we watch the water flow and swirl counter clock...

Entry 42 of a trip titled: One last trip... that's what I said last time, and now here we are once again leaving. This time for 6 months to South America with my fiance Andrea. Does this travel bug ever really die? I hope not!

One last trip... we've said that before, but this time it may be for real. Well, at least for a while. We've put everything back in storage, put life on hold yet again and have chosen adventure over logic. Follow along on our trip to South America. We'll be sending real-time updates with our camera phone thanks to TravelPod's mobile blogging service and will update our travel blog as much as possible. During this 6 month trek, we plan to visit our sponsored child in Paraguay, party in Rio during Carnival and work our way through as many countries and amazing sites as we can before ending in Colombia to head home where we promise that this time, we'll settle down... ... for a while :)

Ecuador = Equator
Jul 10, 2006 (7 photos)

Make sure to check out Andrea's Travel Blog for more stories and photos of our trip! Ecuador = Equator If you haven't noticed the odd similarity in the two words of the title of this entry, Ecuador, is smack dab on the equator. A bus ride 11/2 hours north of Quito gets you to Mitad del Mundo, literally, the middle of the world. They've setup a t...

Hôtel de bonne qualité et bien situé.

from fdss on 2006-10-15

from Neilp on 2006-10-15

Normal

from locoalterego on 2006-10-07

Great hotel, and location.

from fdss on 2006-08-18
Our stay here was booked as part of a tour group. We stayed 2 nights total. Our entire stay was great. Room was as expected. The bathroom, had some tolietries, and a blowdryer, and adequate towels. Breakfast was included with our room. The breakfast was buffet style. It was mostly rolls, cheeses, cereals, and 2 types of hot dishes. I am not a picky eater by far, but I was not impressed at all with the breakfast. I found the scrambled eggs, not cooked enough for my taste. We ate lunch and dinner there, and I thought those meals were good. Otherwise, I thought it was a great hotel. They have 2 free computers to use the internet, in a little room apart from the lobby. It is also directly across the street from an internet cafe. The staff was very attentive I thought. We stored our luggage there for a week, while we were at the Galapagos Islands. We had no problems with our luggage. I would stay at this hotel again.

Muy buena elección en Quito

from A TripAdvisor User on 2006-07-16

Nice place, great breakfast, good location

from Neilp on 2006-01-16
Best piece of advice, don't stay on the top two or three floors, especially at a weekend, as these can be noisy if there is an event on in the big rooms which are at the top.

The hotel rooms are nice, clean big bathrooms, most rooms have minibar etc, and many rooms on the front have a great view over the city.

Staff are pretty friendly and speak english. Best of all, the breakfast buffet is excellent. Probably the best I had on a 4 week trip in Ecuador and Galapagos.

I'd stay again if I were in Quito.

It was OK

from locoalterego on 2005-11-22
The staff were quite helpful, the rooms are clean, there is free internet, the breakfast is OK. Overall I would say it was OK but not remarkable.

Good modern hotel

from mrrfrost on 2005-11-22
Usnure what to expect of Quito hotel standard but this was an excellent hotel. The rooms were spacious and clean and the bathroom facilites were of high standard. There was also a free safe in each room.

The staff were extremely helpful and the breakfast buffet is more than adequate.

The hotel is in the modern part of Quito just a minute away from the bars, clubs and restaurants. Try and get a room on a higher floor as street partying seemed to go on quite late!

Convenient

from A TripAdvisor User on 2005-11-17
We stayed five nights in this hotel over two visits. The rooms were adequate but our second one was noisy. The concierge was fantastic. The main advantage is the site - very near a good restaurant area and a very cheap and good laundry service. It is also 5 minutes walk from the wonderful El Museo del Banco Centrale.

Adequate American style hotel

from WestcoastMom on 2005-05-05
This hotel is your basic clean american style hotel. The rooms were clean and you can book a double room for about 50 USD. It is in an area that is relatively safe to walk in. There is a travel agency right next door that can day tours of the city and the local area. The 24 hour restaurant is pretty good too and there is free internet access in the lobby. I would likely stay there again.
