First night in Altstätten was a quiet affair at home with Marco and Stephie. We had arrived in the afternoon in the middle of their kids getting home from soccer camp, chucking things in bags and taking off with various friends for sleepovers. Seemed like a very busy last week of the holidays with all the kids making the most of their summer break. Pretty soon it had quietened down with just M, S and Lou left to hear all our tales ...

Sun 7/27-tues 7/29 Sunday it was still raining as we drove out of Switzerland, drove through Lichtenstein and Austria, ending up in Meersburg, Germany on the Bodensee, the largest lake in Europe bordered by Switzerland, Austria and Germany. We are staying at a cute hotel, almost more like a B&B up above the lake. The lake view rooms were quite expensive, so, not thinking we would be spending much time sitting around, we opted for the garden view. It was our own little cottage! ...

We headed down towards Lake Constance as a stop off on our way to Munich, although we seemed to be positioned in a small gap between 2 permanent vans which people used as a walk through, it turned out not to be a bad position by the lake.

We cycled into the local villages around the campsite, but not a great deal to see apart from the views.

    Oh and the Sun shone!

... Leonhard downloaded some photos while Renate and Neville had an extended breakfast. We drove through villages on the banks of the Rhine to the Rheinfalls (German spelling). We had been there before but today it wad crowded with tourists and the water flow was strong after recent rains. This is a powerful demonstration of nature's power. There is a hydro power station on the Rhine near Scaffhausen and some anti-nuclear activists wanted a power station ...

Schaffhausen is a small town from you can visit the Rhin Falls, the bigger waterfalls in Europe.
You can take bus number 1 from the train station and, in about 10 minutes, you have to step off in "Neuhausen Zentrum". From there there a lot of pannels indicating the direction to the waterfalls. You can reach them in about 7-8 minutes on foot.
    Entrance is ...
