... in and we had a quick rain storm which drove the sun bathers from the beach, and then sun again. We decide to visit Wismar as well and I am so glad we had time to visit. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a small port town with a lovely city gate and colorful buildings. ... lake, surrounded by beautiful sculpted gardens, hanging gardens and an Orangerie all add to the charm. The Schwerin Cathedral (Dom St Maria und St Johannes) is also worth a visit - if just for the views to be had from the base of the spire. From the top you can see all the lakes and old town laid out beneath you. ...

In 1160, Henry the Lion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_the _Lion) captured Schwerin. The town was subsequently expanded into a powerful regional centre. A castle was built, and expanded upon over the centuries, on this site. It is supposedly haunted by the small, impious ghost, called Petermännchen. ...
