Vancouver stopover

30th May 2008 The plane to Sydney didn't leave until just before midnight so we had a bit of time to kill. We organised a late checkout from the motel, but that still got us to the airport at around 1:30pm. We checked our bags which were perfectly on weight, so that was good, didn't have to repack bags on the airport floor. Then we just found some seats as far out of the way as possible, but it was still pretty uncomfortable and noisy. We were there for a couple of hours before our Air Canada...

... However I know at least 3 of my friends have nothing better to do, so I'll press on....

2 weeks ago we had Victoria day weekend, which meant Monday off work too. I figured I'd been pretty lax of late with the whole being a tourist thing so I headed to Granville Island on the Saturday armed with camera, guidebook and a vague sense of superiority which soon vanished after getting lost on the way. Granville Island is a little scrap of land under Granville bridge which has a ...

Whats occuring....

Hello everyboday! So I'm into week 3 now and I figured I'd best update you all with how I'm getting on. I know you're all desperate to know. Still loving Vancouver, still unemployed though. Spent the last week job hunting mainly but so far no luck. There seems to be a fair few about though so I'm still optimistic. Thinking of finding a room in a house anyway, that should pressure me to lower my standards and take any ...

... take some photos for her. They do so they art of leadership is delegation ....) The other thing we often find about cities, is there always two sides to them, no matter where you are in the world. And very sorry to say this was absolutely no exception! We decided to walk over towards Chinatown....... and let me say, some scary sights we saw on the way. This has to be the homeless, derelict capital of any metropolitan city I've ever seen ...

Sore Feet

Well today was a real action packed day with walking, sightseeing and even a Magic Show on Granville Island thrown in there for some good measure. Caroline, Ty, Nicola and I somehow made it to the Downtown Hostel just in the nick of time as the schedule was for an 11:45am trip departure for the Granville Island tour, but we got in there at about 11:50 - 11:55am and by a remarkable feat they had not departs which was a real relief to a certain ...

... them on and off for 30 years - the house, contents, cars, business, business cars and even our travel insurance is with State. State Insurance was ****! Insurance companies sell "Piece of mind" and customers get this only by "trusting" their insurance company - we have lost all trust in State - we had so many people at State Insurance promise to deal with our problem and they did NOTHING. Sorry that's enough ranting from me ...

... people in a very small area (sort of a bit like Walsall) which is maybe why its reputation is growing. There's pubs which looked like they'd be cheap and I bet they're alright really even if they look a bit rough round the edges. We found a speakeasy back in downtown to watch the football. Beckham was in town with L.A Galaxy for an exhibition match. What made our night though were the guys sat with us at the bar, in particular a young trainee ...

We packed up our bags, and deflated our air mattresses (lucky for me mine nev** actually inflated). We went for our final greasy meal in Vancouv** (actually most of the food was amazing) But this final one wasn't. Then we killed the day Relaxing on a patio with a view of the harbor. We flew off back to Edmonton, No one seemed all that excited ...

... but I did discover one interesting fact, there appears to be many more Starbucks in Vancouver than in Seattle. But you completely understand why there are so many up here. Damp, cold and gray weather just lends itself to a hot cup of chai tea being available at every imaginable intersection.
