... In Admont Austria, a small town of 3000 people, our friend Hans lives with his wife Barbara, and their two children Martina and Katrin. This is a small town that we could definitely take up residence in. It is surrounded by beautiful tall mountains, and wonderful green pastures in the valley below. Next we went to Krakow, arriving late in the evening and getting up early the next morning to catch a bus to the town of Oswiecim which is close to ...
Fredrikstad, Ostfold, Norway jasieniukrtwLeft Stavern later than anticipated after having a fight with the tent and packing my bag. Why do things always come out easily but you can never get everything back in. Solution tie my smeller wet trainers on to the side of the rucksack. 1 day of trekking and they really do smell. Anyway arrived in Tønsberg just after mid-day in glorious sunshine. Tønsberg is reported to be the oldest town in Norway built in the ...
Tønsberg, Norway sd0744... the campsite i was going to use was now abandoned and the nearest one is in the nearby town of Stavern. With a few hours to kill in Larvik with rain getting persistantly heavier waiting for the next bus. I thought buses i my home village was bad with only ten a day, here there is only six here to make the 7 mile trip. There is a few things to see in Larvik Torv (centre) with a nice fountain made from the famous ...
Stavern, Norway sd0744... up was truly spectacular in the full sunlight. It started snowing and it feels like it's January and certainly not June. We pass through famous towns like Lillehammer where the Winter Olympics was held. Lillehammer is on the north end of Lake Mjosa, the largest lake in Norway. Our trained screamed down the 100 mile home stretch of our journey to Oslo. Once we arrived in Oslo we quickly found the half hour ...
Vollen, Norway victorkubikI saw the northern lights for the first time tonight! It was so cool! They were this soft green pulsing sort of movement that just floated around and danced just over the tree tops. It's so much cooler to see it in real life than it is on TV! Now, I just need to see a Norwegian moose and I will have seen all the things I was hoping to see before leaving. Then again, maybe I should save the moose sighting for another trip back to visit. I arrived here at Joe's ...
Andebu, Norway mannalieI love my job. I really do. Each of the residents is so unique, and interesting and the people that I work with are all so patient with me. We get to go on small trips almost every day to give the residents some variety, so I also get to see more of the area around us. I also went with a group to Oslo for the day, but we didn't see much, so I feel like I still haven't been there ...
Andebu, Norway mannalieAnne-Marie is here, we are ready to leave. We have packed our small backpacks, but we will have to repack them several times to be sure we do not carry too much unneccessary stuff to the Far East. It will be hot enough, for sure. Anne-Marie doesn't know how hot it will be, but she is very brave.
Sandefjord, Norway mum7... s cousin even convinced me to play volley ball. Him and his brother, Håkon, and I made a pretty good team. Later on Karoline and I took on the boys. I really hope I am spelling peoples names correctly...I give no guarantees! Anyway, it was a very nice party, and it lasted well into the night. Oh, and the word of the day is "deilig" which means lovely, and which I hear and use a lot. Det var en deilig fest! (I'll add pics later)
Andebu, Norway mannalie... her, but now I feel really good about living with her and her family. My Norwegian is really scrappy, but she was really patient and kind, and helped me work through it. So far the food has been great. I LOVE softis. It's like soft-serve ice cream but creamier and yummier, and altogether better. The Norwegian word of the day, however, is "ku" which ...
