Sweden capital Stockholm is built across 14 islands and is often called "Venice of the North". With more foreign visitors than any other city in Scandinavia it is also considered to be the Capital of Scandinavia. Stockholm is situated at the point where the vast Lake Mälaren meet the salt water Baltic Sea. As water covers one third of the city area …

From the time we cruised in the narrow channel between all the little islands until the time we cruised out again, we loved Stockholm. I would have liked to have bought a little something here, but we really didn't have time. Our tour started off with a walk around the old quarter - magnificent. Our guide was 6'8" - and no, he didn't play basketball, he told us. He kept throwing in "back in the day", and when I asked where he learned ...

It was an amazing day in Stockholm. I love this city and I’ve only spent a day here. A good friend of mine, Chris La****n lived here somewhere in and around Stockholm – I’m envious that he got to enjoy what is truly a lovely city. ...

... amazed that I did it!

I'll post some photos as soon as we finish. Needless to say this is not everyone's idea of furnishing their home, but it works well enough for us. And after all, we're in Sweden, IKEA is a almost a national obsession.

Tomorrow I'll tackle the other night stand, a dresser and two desk. It should be a busy day!

... Aregawi of Sweden. How would she do dropping down in distance?

The first 400m of this one went as expected. Rabbit Yekaterina Kupina of Russia led the field through 400m in 57.12 with Alysia Montano giving chase. Kupina led through 500m and then kept going on the backstretch. As she approached 600m, she began to slow but instead of stepping off the track she stayed in lane 2 and the field had to go around ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Rica Hotel Gamla Stan Stockholm

    Super Stockholm

    from

Just returned from a four day city break to Stockholm. We chose the Rica Hotel Gamla Stan for two reasons. One the hotel is very old, some of it dating back to 1650 and second we wanted a hotel in the Old Town (Gamla Stan) so that we were central. The hotel staff were welcoming and helpful. Our room was small but well appointed, and decorated in very much a Swedish style. The breakfast is very good with a wide selection of hot and cold food and drinks. The breakfast room is small and sometimes becomes very busy. Go to breakfast early is a good recommendation!

Some good, some not so good rooms

    from

We booked our room through Destination Stockholm. The desk clerk was very efficient at check in and said we had a room on the "courtyard." We opened our room door to find the bleakest, tiniest hotel room I can remember in all our travels. The furniture wasn't up to garage sale standards! And worst of all, the courtyard was actually a roof with plastic chairs, and our only window could have served as a door to anyone in the "courtyard." We would have had to keep the window closed or had no privacy or safety. And it was almost 80 degrees and warm in the room.

    Charming and Beautiful

    from

First off I must address the ignorance of the travellers complaining that the rooms at the Rica Gamla Stan are small. Yes, they aren't as big as your average Ramada in the United States, but this hotel occupies a building dating from the 1600's! What do you expect?

    Sehr zufrieden

    from

    from

    It's not all that

    from

After reading some positive reviews on this hotel, I booked a room, but was disappointed with my choice. It is in a great location in Gamla Stan. But the room was tiny, as was the bathroom (which had only a shower and not a tub). The bed was way too soft, with virtually no support at all. And the room seemed dark, even though it faced the street and had two windows. I guess you could say it was "charming" or "quaint," but at over $250 dollars per night, I was expecting nicer. I would classify it as a 3-star hotel, at best.

Lovely hotel in a fab location

    from

I stayed at this hotel a few years ago but it still sticks in my mind because of (a) the location and (b) the breakfast! The hotel is a block from the main shopping and dining streets of Gamla Stan (the Old Town) and the Royal Palace, and walking distance from the more modern parts of central Stockholm. Gamla Stan itself is simply beautiful, and as a woman travelling alone the location was perfect, as it was no distance from the restaurants of the old town back to the hotel, and I felt totally safe walking back at 10pm on a light summer's evening. The rooms are elegant and nicely presented, and although I had a single room and it wasn't big, it was totally adequate for my needs as I wasn't spending much time there anyway! And the breakfast was just magnificent, with everything from cereal, yoghurt, ham and cheese, bread rolls and hot foods through to pancakes with whipped cream! The breakfast really sets you up for the day and the variety was the best I've seen. Thoroughly recommend this hotel.

    Very Happy

    from

The rooms are rather small but not for Europe. Nicely appointed. The hotel is very clean and the staff is very helpful. The location to old town couldn't be better. Highly recommend.

    Nice Hotel with good breakfast

    from

Although not very appealing from the exterior, the interior reveals a clean hotel with old style decoration. The room was good and comfortable and the breakfast with variety and delicious pancakes.

    Good location , tiny rooms

    from

Superb location, but the rooms are really small. My single room was maximum 8 square meters big and it was supposed to be one of the larger rooms. I heard other guests constantly complaining about the size of the rooms. Nice breakefast , hotel neatly kept, but the 4 stars -title is certainly overrated.
