Going back, it was the same, of course, for a total of 100 hairpins. No wonder our hair was curly (not to mention white!) by the time we finished. It was very, very beautiful, though, and worth the abject terror. The road was built by 10,000 Russian prisoners of war, and many died during construction of illness and exposure, and in avalanches. We're missing the last day but the only well-known people playing are The ...

... message across that we needed a cab when low and behold around the corner came the bus. We jumped on and about 15 minutes later arrived in the centre of Bled. The weather had gotten a hell of a lot worse. There was really low cloud, fog and light misty rain falling. The temperature had also dropped. A steady walk up the hill took us to our hostel called “Castle Hostel 1004” When we arrived there was no reception and no one official there ...

... s not so trustworthy gps, we tracked down somewhere to eat. As technology had let us down, we resorted to asking a local for a suggestion. After getting some directions we found, just around the corner, a pizzeria with a generous selection of pizzas. We ordered the biggest pizza we had seen, the grande. When this thing came we couldn't help but laugh at the extraordinary size of it. It must have been half a meter in diameter cut into eight massive slices! We topped it off by drizzling ...
