You get half an hour to enjoy both of them, then the pletna takes you back again. While there you plunk down a few more euro to ring the church bell and get ...
Bled, Slovenia commuter... the docks. Lake Bled was a much happier temperature and I dove in right after Gabe. Sadly the floating is not as good as the ocean, but I stayed in a while anyway. Sunning and drying ourselves on the dock we watched the cutest pair of 5-year old twins swimming and playing with their dad in the water. They were as blonde as could be and were only wearing little ...
Bled, Slovenia claraz8... it off and I tried to get away but her hand would not let go... strange little woman. It was only when the others were riding away that she let me ride off too. In the distance I heard her yell 'I have two brothers'. Okay, good to know. After our local experience, we continued riding to the gorge. Now I have to add, when did bikes get so complicated? The last time I rode a bike there were no confusing gears to contend with. I hate them. I hate the ...
Bled, Slovenia francethedance... Lake Bled, its island home to the church of Sv Marika Bozja, a cliff top castle and the Alps as the backdrop to this stunning place. We also visited the wilder Lake Bohinj and on our way to Bovec we took a wrong turn and ended up back in Austria?!?! We then tried to cross back into Slovenia after having a nice little tour of some random towns in Austria only to find that we had to cross the Alps. We were really hoping there would be some way back ...
Bled, Slovenia kittyZdravo from the breathtaking country of Slovenija! We arrived to Ljubljana on Monday however, have been so busy with the Drolc family (our friend Blazies family) we are now just sitting down to update the blog! For those of you who are not familiar with Slovenija, it is a small country of about two million people located to the east of Italy and northwest of Croatia. Slovenija was actually part of the former Yugoslavia so we are now in the land of the ...
Ljubljana, Ljubljana, Slovenia travelbirds... exactly 90 years ago to the day - October 24, 1917. After a visit through the small but well organized war memorial museum at Kobarid we headed back to Ljubljana. We had planned to attend a concert by the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra at 7:30pm and made it just in time to get cleaned up and to the concert hall in time. The performance was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed ...
Ljubljana, Slovenia kevinandstephne... the mysterious "white sauce" on the menu turned out to be none other than sour cream. Just goes to show you, traveling is always eye-opening, even when you cave and go for some comfort food. After dinner, the rain had subsided, so we wandered around for a while, finally appreciating why Ljubljana is so recommended by other travelers. As viewed sans umbrella, it really is a charming city. If you're headed to Ljubljana: 1) Hostel Celica - believe the hype! Mom and I both loved it ...
Ljubljana, Slovenia mskinner96... best idea). With my afternoon free I went for a walk instead. Caught a bus to a few villages over and then walked through Vintgar Gorge. It was a huge canyon with a river running though it with dozens of mini waterfalls and small rapids. There were wooden plank walkways along the side of the canyon and crossing across it at some points. Along the way people were fishing from the wooden walkways. It was such a peaceful place, and the bit of rain that started coming down when I arrived ...
Bled, Slovenia lindsaymThursday, May 31, 2007 Ljubljana, Capital of Slovenia Dear Readers: For once the sun is shining brightly as we begin our day! We head out of Bled toward Slovenia's Capital-Ljubljana. It is a jewel of a town with the Julian Alps in the background. English is spoken almost universally, and the old buildings lining the river that runs through the old city create an atmosphere reminiscent of Amsterdam. We ...
Ljubljana, Slovenia wareameye... going!!! The view coming into Split was very beautiful and it looked like another stunning town. Our mission as soon as we got of the boat was to find somewhere to fill up our gas bottles as we think we only have about 2 days worth left... well this took up the next hour as we drove around in circles, got directions from a Croatian Arnold Schwarzenegger who playfully punched Wayne in the arm to say goodbye and nearly sent him flying... then drove around in more circles until we ...
