We found out checkout wasn´t until 1pm, so we decided to make the most of our extra day at Playa Bonita. After watching an early morning movie, we headed for the pool for some final hours of relaxation. We got cleaned up, ate some lunch, and called our taxi driver to come pick us up. We were off to the locks!
Miraflores locks are the ones closest to the Pacific side of the canal. The visitor´s center is directly adjacent to the locks, so we were able to see several big liners making th...

... this time) was not as jovial as the book would suggest, just plonked in front of the TV with one of his 3 dogs while one of his local maids ran around after him. Nice place though, and it had a massive parrot in the kitchen!
Despite the weather we were determined to have a look round and had lunch then walked upto a coffee shop to suss out coffee tours and sample the product. The coffee was alright but was a mistake as I ralfed it and my lunch up in the toilet straight after, had ...
Panama City, Panama garyjampot... at half five that evening.

We managed to loose the Israelis in the shopping centre. I don´t really know how we did it but we all needed to get money. The boys had to find a bank to go cash their travellers cheques and myself and Brian just needed an ATM. We lost each other anyway and myself and Brian ended up sitting around in the shopping centre, him taking various walks up and down the length of it in the hope that we´d find them. I did a lot ...

Panama Isla Taboga, Panamá, Panama blowstein... long I'll be there. But then... I think I'll be going to Colombia. Mum, don't panic. I've met loads of people who have been, even some girls travelling alone, who have loved it. It's well-established on the gringo trail and, rest assured, I won't be going to the areas with coca plantations and/or paramilitary acitivty. But that will be in a few weeks. Take care everybody, it's good to hear from you. I'm jealous that you get to eat Mini Eggs and I don't! Happy Easter! Keep in touch!
Panama City, Panama lisa.gillespie... and in town. Canadians, Dutch, Australians, Germans, but few Americans. Most of the travelers are staying anywhere from 3 weeks to 4 months, traveling from one place to another in Latin America. They cannot understand how in the U.S., it is normal to only get 2 or 3 weeks of vacation. An Australian I talked to had ¨counted¨ up his time (comp time) and was traveling 4 months. The school Habla Ya is whipping my butt ...
Boquete,, Panama lstonehamWe were up early to start our trip through the Panama Canal. The liner was circling similar to planes stacking to come into Heathrow. We were in a line of ships - no 19 to go through from south to north that day. It was bright and sunny and things looked good. We eventually passed under the Bridge of the Americas to line up to go through the Miraflores locks. What a performance! It took 19 people from the canal company to come on board to sort out the ...
Panama Canal, Panama lizallen... opted for a lock based system. The Canal officially became Panamanian on 31st December 1999 and has a huge impact on the economics of the country. Afterwards the four of us went into the new CBD. We ate Lebanese food outside at El Ambra, then wandered about underneath the towering skyscrapers before returning back to the hotel for the second welcome meeting now that everyone had arrived. We all then went to dinner in El Canjero at the Greenhouse, which was mainly Mexican food.
Panama City, Panama travelsal... itself is good, and with the exception of a few curves very straight. I'm in a great mood we have crossed the final border in Central America. We arrive in David far earlier than we expected and decided to keep riding too Santiago. We stop at an indigenous person's road side shop and look at his goods and slightly stimulate the local economy. As we continue to ride there are huge black clouds ahead of us. We stop and put on our rain gear, less than ...
