The sun was cracking the stucco walls as we prepared for another busy day doing not very much in Marrakech. Lucia had bought a Fez yesterday, thereby ending a lifelong search for the world's most authentic head wear; however, she has decided not to wear it in Morocco for some unknown reason ( at least to me. ) so it is back to baseball caps and the classic, floppy bush-hat.

On a different subject, it has been brought to my ...

At dinner last night, this well traveled group was discussing that Morocco has been named (not sure by who) as the #1 travel destination in the world. Having been here for a week, we found this so surprising. Yes there are beautiful areas and yes, the medina shopping is a real experience and yes we all loved the camel ride in the Sahara. Today we drove through the High Atlas Mountains and you can forget what I said yesterday about their height relative to the Middle Atlas - they rise to over 13,000 feet. We drove through the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass - a spectacular sight. ... must be some regulation to the practice. There isn't. Tourists indulge in gawking at their own risk. The word "wild" again came to mind as the perfect descriptor of the square. As the monkey trainers and snake handlers exited the square to make way for the "restaurants" to set up shop, we walked through to see what gastronomic options were available. The least appetizing offering (and there were quite a few) was the cooked whole sheep's heads, on proud display to ...

... was wet and cold. After dumping the bags at the bus station (70p for the day) we discovered a stairway amongst the slowly opening market. The first floor contained small rooms, revealed behind huge blue doors, in which men wove striped woolen fabric in pairs. Some units had 4 looms, with a total of 8 men at work. Men crouched on the floor winding wool onto spindles ready for the weavers to swap into their polished wooden shuttles.

      We found the ...
