... hotel. We finally reached it and I gave him a tip but of course it
wasn’t enough, I gave him a bit more
- using lots of small denomination coins so it gave the illusion of
being lots of money, but of course he was onto the rouse and kept demanding
more Euros.
Our hotel was
nice. The photos of our room on the website were deceiving, giving the
impression of a huge, elaborate Palace of a room, but in reality it was much
smaller and plainer ...
From the fun flats of Marrakech...we made our way to the High Atlas mountains for well...mountains of magnificent hiking and views.
Jebel Toubkal stands at 4200m above sea level and at that is the highest most point in northern Africa and also a bit of a mission! We made it up the mighty mountain in a few days and did some sleeping, sun burning and Scrabble in there as well. An absolutely incredible adventure!
Back down and all set to embark on a road trip to Fez!

After immense Irish experiences and an interesting and equally incredible adventure in Italy i arrived in Morocco having met both big brother Jage and eventually Stewart in Milan...
We made our way to the mad, mixed and amazing Marrakech with a few friends we found along the way and ended up in the midst of Ramadan at a funky guesthouse hidden away in the ...
... 8217;s hard to describe a "souk", or shops district, in any way that adequately expresses the sensory slam you’re hit with. It is Arabian Nights, it is timeless. You kind of float through these alleys, a stretched arm’s width wide, that are buzzing with activity on both sides. Everything imaginable from furnishings to bicycle repair, metalwork to tannery, jewelry to spices – and rugs. The people are friendly ...
Marrakesh, Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, Morocco thedicksons... Then I had to wait for someone else to stamp it, and then go stand in line again. At least I didn't get interrogated or something. But come on, picking on the Canadian!
I had arranged the airport pickup because everyone who reviewed my riad said it was impossible to find. So I was met by Kamal and taken to the riad with four Polish girls.
My first impression - I am in Africa. It was just so... different.

Marrakech is an incredible city. It has a huge walled city centre, the walls are 16 km long and still intact, and if you enter through one of the gates, the world is not like it used to be. People come dressed like in those movies about when Jesus was born, so I think it is a very adequate place to spend the week before Christmas. I wonder anyway how snow and Santa on a sledge came into the picture when the whole story ...
Marrakech, Morocco sabaidii... touristy. He also had us fill out of feedback forms before he brought us home. He didnt make any direct connection between the two, but I didnt want to take any chances since it was a little after midnight. We gave him a good review, but signed it "deceitfully", hoping that his english was not good enough to catch this. Well; we are here now, so I guess not. Bye for now

Levanta-se
uma pequena tempestade de areia...toca a correr dali para fora e rápido
antes que ela chegue até nós....descer é fácil é só correr para chegar
a nossa "haima"(tenda Tuareg). Ai vem ela, impressionante a força da
natureza, e a resistencia da "haima"e dos seus cobertores. Passa pouca
areia para dentro isto em comparação com o que esta a passar lá fora.

... least, to be assured I've gotten on the right train. And now we're moving. Excellent. It wasn't necessarily easy to get this far. I woke up at 4:45 this morning to shower and make sure I had everything, before hoisting my bag (with wheels) on my shoulder and marching off to where I presumed the bus stop was. I had looked on a map, online, and it had seemed straightforward enough, but in the dim light of London at 5 am, everything seemed a little less clear. I'm quite lucky that ...
