    It wasn't raining when we set off and the sky was pretty dark but we convinced ourselves it would stay dry...... We did get the walk into town in the dry and our first stop was a Roman villa, now part of a major road underpass. The site was a Bishop's Palace and many of the mosaic floors were still in tact.     We are getting later and slower in the mornings. Sitting drinking our second cup of coffee in the lovely garden of the Arbanasi Han Hotel (which I can highly recommend) watching a very dark red, almost black, squirrel playing in the trees it was hard to set off for Plovdiv. A chance conversation alerted us to the newly discovered Thracian tombs of 4C BC in the valley of Kazanlak which were only explored in 2004. ...

    ... are more difficult but we enjoyed the challenges! Our instructor even began teaching us techniques from intermediate level so we are more eager to get back next year and attempt the black runs!! We thoroughly enjoyed the skiing, the atmosphere, the beers(at the eagle), wine and the fantastic food each day and night! We even got diploma certificates :) Sadly though our skiing had to come to an end but we weren't heading home yet, next stop Sofia for 2 nights ...

Our lessons were only for 2 hours each morning, but Nik insisted on coming with us to see how we went each afternoon when we wanted to do a run down a new slope. He was always offering lessons and helping out his class after hours and even offering words of help to other classes if members joined us on our arvo runs and to Simon who wasn't ...
