... which makes it tough. Good practice. Since I've been here I've picked up on words in several languages. Looks like I may get a chance to learn some Hebrew which is cool. Tanya says it's pretty easy. I'm accidentally learning Italian from Carla and my Spanish is improving thanks to Maxi. I'm also learning Yiddish on accident, so If I end up on the East Coast at a bagel shop I'm totally covered. Anyway...not much to report.

Fall Break Begins, and I head to Ireland!

... animals moldered on the mantel. In the parlor, obviously a once beautiful room, the ceiling literally fell. Ivy grew into the interior through little gaps in the stone. Suddenly I was transported into Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre. This house was the most romantic place I've ever experienced.
Sarah's family only added to the ambiance. Her mother, a typically Irish woman, sweetly offered tea at every possible moment, mothering us as only the Irish can. A ...

The Final Tour

... time it was the tallest building in the world.
It was awesome inside with the high vaulted ceiling and beautiful stained glass windows. It has a golden alter which contains their relics, supposedly some of the bones of the Three Wise Men.
This afternoon was the time to pack as we arrive in Amsterdam tonight. We’re in the first group to leave tomorrow for the airport and have to be ready by 5:45 a.m.

Koln Cathedral

... visited baby Jesus. The cathedral took over 600 years to complete. Its twin towers used to help guide allied pilots on their bombing raids in WWII. Unfortunately the cathedral was damaged during WWII.

The cathedral was huge and inspiring. Its high vaulted ceilings held in place by flying buttresses, along with the beautiful stained glass windows, left me ...

Trip to Schlossenberg castle

... which, of course, I took advantage of. I also got to try Currywurst today which was pretty yummy. Laura and Alex said that it wasn't very good, but I liked it anyway so I'm anxious to see what the "good" currywurst tastes like. After that we went to a park under the tallest railway bridge in Europe. I've actually crossed this bridge on the train several times but I'd never had the opportunity to see it from outside the train. Shortly after we left there we all went to see the house ...

The day of a thousand trains

Today I got up "super early" after watching some movies with Ruth the previous night. I got to the old center (not far from Ruth's house by subway, about 2 or 3 stops) around 8.15am and did a super quick tour around the old city.

I loved the ancient gothic Cathedral, and walked around it for a good hour or so, taking lots of pictures and what not. Beautiful stained windows, paintings, statues, and all around good ...

Germany - Andee's First Impression

... and a warm washcloth in the morning. Fancy and that was in coach. Eat your heart out Steve! A couple of funny things did happen on the way here...in Zurich I tried to buy a cup of coffee in the airport (this is in Switzerland) and the cashier asked me to pay in francs. I was only prepared (and studied Euros). Lost in translation, I had a panic attack and was going to run away and just leave the coffee altogther. An ...

Aachan to Hanover

... found one of them by accident. Soldier had 5 and the other bloke had 7 for a 2h 40m journey and they were asleep most of the time. The soldier was reading what I can only describe as a field and trek book for the army. All different devices to kill people. Do they have to buy their own kit? The marshalling yards in Hamm were absolutely massive, about 50 or 60 tracks wide ...
