Our first stop on the way to the Black Forest region was Heidelberg, at the suggestion of our neighbor. What an adorable old German city. Where we parked, you could see Schloss Heidelberg looming above the city. Very cool. From there, we just walked through the old down taking in the architecture, then took a bridge across the Necker river, had some lunch at a fun little French cafe, then headed out so we could make the Monastery as ...
... with chips for lunch. On the cruise we saw some magnificent looking castles in the mountains surrounding the Rhine. Some of these castles included some medieval ruins as well as some that have been looked after. We then continued off to our hotel in Mannheim for some R and R. We finished the day with dinner at our hotel where we had a starter of Salad, a pork schnitzel with mushroom sauce and finished with a bowl of ice ...
... for some sites, shopping and dining. We roved around and by 3:20 we were eating at the Havana Cafe. Good food.
Next on some peoples' addenda was shopping. James and I tagged along in the stifling heat - good times.
The day in Mannheim was capped with spaghetti ice (that's ice cream - ice cream is called ice in Germany) so we had spaghetti ice. See pics........
By 6:04 we were on our train for Speyer and back in the house by 6:45.

Duisburg. In the end, I made 3 trips to Duisburg which is more than I thought! Once to meet everyone, once for a funeral and once to celebrate New Years, so I had very different experiences each time. It was great to get to know everybody up there and everyone was very friendly and accommodating. Next time they will have to come and visit us!
