... teaching us about the chakras, the emotions and bodily processes they are associated with, and the diseases that you get when something is wrong with one of them. And, of course, which herbs you need to right those wrongs. I was doing my best to follow it all in Latvian, and Laura was doing her best translating for Anna, Valentina and me, but forgive me (and her) if I'm getting my facts wrong.

... ties that held the fence in place, to give us easier access to the loos. I was half way through this task when the young harbourmaster appeared, flourishing a key! He had no idea who had locked the gates but assured us that they would now stay unlocked, so problem solved.

... the engine, running at 1500 rpm, just enough to keep us in the sweet spot. Later the combination of wind and our change of direction enabled us to goose-wing and therefore switch off the engine. As we approached Kolka lighthouse on the tip of the Latvian peninsula that marks the entrance to the Gulf of Riga, we had the engine on again + both sails, then as we turned right to enter the Gulf and with 19 miles to go, we were able to put away the genoa pole and ...

We are loving it here in Latvia - though every country we go to we find reasons for staying on longer or coming back again one day...

The base here, with its heavily iron-saturated water, steep, dodgy stairs and much need for love and repair, is used over the year as a training center for DTS (Discipleship Training Schools), Counseling Schools and training in Biblical Studies - as well as having many team-building groups and camps through during the Summer months.

Latvia.

And to think we couldn't have even told you where exactly on a map the place was a year ago.
This country is about a 1/4 the size of our own Aotearoa, with approximately 2.3 million for population (around 56% of them being Latvian and 32% Russian) - sparse indeed compared to the average country in Europe.
We find ourselves presently settled at the YWAM base in very rural Valdemarpils (it's okay, I'm fine...I'm coping...so far...) being about 2 hours ...
