Historical Traveler Reviews of Reykjavik Hotel Reykjavík

Great Place to stay in Reykjavik

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed 2 nights in hotel as part of an IcelandAir special. The hotel was very clean. Arrived at the hotel early, and there wasn't a room in the class that we booked available, so they upgraded us so that we could get a room instantly! Room was very cute. Location wasn't ideal, but it was close to the main street, quiet and only a 15 minute walk to bars, clubs and restaurants. Relatively central location. Hotel has a free parking gargage which was very convient and a nice Scandinavian breakfast. Would definitely recommend.

Not bad!

the hotel is nice, not extrodinary by any means, but it is in a really good location near shopping and restaurants.

Great Hotel

from TonyW
Just returned from 3 nights in this hotel. Everything exactly as described on their website. Very close to the centre of town (200m from the start of the main shopping street). Free underground parking

(so no messing about with parking meters), free broadband internet in the reception, great buffet breakfast included. Room was fine although only a shower (a hot bath would have been nice after a day out in the snow and -10 degree's temperatures!) Would quite happily stay here again.

Great location

Spent four days at this hotel, cannot find any faults, breakfast was continental but plenty of choice. Room was very clean and warm, (ours was like an Ikea showroom) the staff were friendly and helpful. Brilliant location for all tourist attractions in Reykjavik. Recommend highly (and we're fussy!)

Very comfortable hotel and very well situated

Spent five nights during November. The hotel is very comfortable and is in walking distance from all the major tourist sights. We walked home every night from the pubs and restaurants. Breakfast was above average.

Top Hotel Reykjavik is the Tops!

Top Hotel Reykjavik is a wonderful option for travelers who are looking for a budget hotel in a great location in the city. The street the hotel is located on is not the prettiest street in Reykjavik but don't let that deter you. The hotel is located far enough away from the noisy partying in the center of the old town but just minutes away from a main city bus terminal that will get you to all of the attractions in just two or three stops. If you like to walk you can walk everywhere from the hotel - it is about a 25 minute walk into the center of the old part of town straight down Laugavegur which is one of the city's main shopping streets.

The hotel lobby is bright and comfortable and the staff is very accomodating. They arranged everything from tours to dinner reservations to car rental and cabs for us. An all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet of Icelandic meats, herring, cheeses, skyr, flatbrod, breads, croissants, cereals, soft-boiled eggs, coffee, tea, milk and orange juice was included in our room rate and we were able to get by with just one other meal per day. (Breakfast served from 7-10 am) The breakfast room becomes the "snack bar" the rest of the day (we didn't order anything) and there is also a small bar with two happy hours (6-7 pm and 9-10pm). Connected to the hotel is an expensive steakhouse with a very reasonable tourist menu. We had one very good dinner there with very friendly service.

Our room was small by American standards but very, very clean and bright. Scandanavian in decor with gleaming hard-wood floors, muted tones and very comfortable beds. Heavy curtains blocked out the midnight sun at night. The t.v. carried CNN (London) and MTV amongst other familiar cable stations which was great for background noise when in the room. The bathroom was small with just a shower and it was hard to keep the water from going everywhere - the only minor complaint about the room. The hot water is a bit smelly (sulpher) but that is the case everywhere. The cold water is pure spring water and it is the best water I've ever drunk out of a hotel bathroom sink! Everyday our room was immaculately made up by the cleaning staff.

Can't say enough good about this hotel or Reykjavik as a travel destination. Both are wonderful!

Choice location for downtown & night life

from A TripAdvisor Member
Spent four days. Quiet hotel, small room, well heated, a bit claustrophobic and not terribly attractive, but relatively inexpensive (compared to everywhere else). Prime location means you won't be spending much time there anyway. Everything downtown is walking distance. Staff was fantastic, most spoke very good English, were helpful with arranging tours, mailing postcards, etc. Very good complimentary breakfast buffet. Ask for a room w/balcony. Again, its main asset is its location. If you're there for the nightlife and don't want to stumble back in the wee hours to one of the many bed&breakfasts (i.e. some family's house) then this is a reasonably priced alternative. Also a plus: it's on the Flybus route, which means you can get to and from the airport easily and affordably.

Fantastic!!!!

I have just returned from 4 days at Hotel Reykjavik and I thought it was fantastic!!! Our room was lovely and modern, the staff were brilliant and we were in easy reach of the city centre. I would recommend it to anyone - a gem!!!

A Ceiling Too Low...

Maybe you have to be in the mood: the Hotel Reykjavik is fabulously situated, but I got what I suspect is the oddest room in-house - 416.

It's quite literally at the top of the hotel, under the eaves - I had to pull the bed out from the wall, because if I'd sat up suddenly I'd have concussed myself! The room is fairly big, long and a bit narrow, with two armchairs and a loveseat at one end - funky is the word I'd use to describe it. There are lots of windows and a couple of skylights, but it's dark; it's certainly not your standard hotel room (for that, you'd want the Grand Hotel Reykjavik, which belongs to the same company). In all, though not a bad deal for an expensive, quirky city.

The best

i went on holiday with my family to iceland and we were put in this hotel and as soon as you walked through the front doors i knew that it was going to be good. the staff were very kind asking if we would like some help with anything. the restruant staff were very helpful as well because when we went to breakfast they would come to our table and ask if we wolud like tea or coffee and they also kept all the tables tidy, as soon as some one had left the table they would go to that table and take all the dishes away and wash and have put back out. there was a bar aswell but i did not go in there because we did not have any time because me and my brother would go out and adfventure around.
