... on the bus to the winery. Had the driver not warned us where it was we would have easily missed it. We got off the bus and walked down dirt roads for about half mile to the winery.
After a wine tasting, we were permitted to do a self-guided tour. We had about fifteen minutes when a couple of buses pulled up with tourists. Time to leave… We had asked about a local restaurant and were directed to one right near where the bus dropped us ...
Pinnacle monasteries
Meteora was perhaps the place I was most looking forward to seeing in Europe. The pictures of little monasteries perched atop impossible pinnacles always look amazing. The pinnacles tower above the towns of Kalambaka and Kastraki, rising vertically and interestingly pockmarked. Some of these pockmarks retain remnants of habitation and some of the pinnacles developed into real communities. The pinnacles are not quite as inaccessible as they look but building up ...
Best Part of the trip so far
... jan-su) and Sizine. They were super nice and a good addition to this town. We spent the full day and a half with them. The first day we hiked up the mountain to see one monastery. The next day we visited the others, this time taking a taxi up to save some time. it was very relaxing and beautiful and I took hundreds of pictures.

Holy Rocky Mountain High!

Next the bus went up the picturesque hills to the base of Holy Trinity monastery. All these monasteries were built in 10th century. They were built on these high rocks to be closer to gods, as a sanctuary to pray and for protection from enemies. There used to be 24 monasteries and now only 6 are left. The tours generally go to 1 nunnery and 1 monastery.
The original tour just stops at the monastery ...
