... day in Cadiz. I went through the cathedral & walked to a castle that juts out into the sea. From there I walked some distance around the waterfront (a different part from where the long sandy beach was) until I came to a church, where I hopped back on the bus & went to the central part of town. I walked to the tower on the gate into the old city & it was closed, so I walked to an area where there are expensive houses with towers, that wealthy merchants used to ...

It was yet another kindness on our host’s part to point us to this trail. It was like a walk in the park today, but I don’t think my companions liked it very much. It was also very humid from yesterday's rain, and each breath felt less like air and ...

... had a pleasant ending with music. The other pilgrims said they had discovered a pilgrim’s song, and they pulled out a copy of the lyrics they had found online. It was "Ultreia", the song my previous companions had taught me. So, we sang it together and the German man (the one I met in la Souterraine) played the harmonica. A true medieval ending to a medieval feast.

... as we walked together as a group of four to the town.

We stayed in a hotel in Negrondes, as all the pilgrim refuges had been booked full. The hotel was very expensive, so my companions and I shared a room with two queen beds. They, kindly, shared a bed while I took the other for myself. Splitting the room brought the price down to a manageable $25 euros a person. However, the hotel only had very expensive food as an option, there was no ...
