... boys. As we were moving the bags the boys finally turned up – 3 and a half hours later. They were pretty annoyed with Europcar. It had taken 3 hours for them to get served when there were only 5 people in front of them. There was a lady in the line who complained – she was French Canadian. She said ‘it is French, you need to complain’! That’s pretty poor service. Apparently they were taking private calls, talking to each other etc.

More Chateaux

Thankfully this morning started off a bit cooler, and we even had a bit of drizzle to start with. Charlie and I had not yet had our fill of chateaux, so we went off to the supremely graceful Chateau de Cheverny, thought by many to be the most perfectly proportioned chateau of all. Constructed between 1625-34, and built from gleaming stone from nearby quarries, it is one of the few chateaux whose original architecture has survived the centuries practically unchanged. We all met ...

After this we had lunch at a creperie which was excellent, we both had blue cheese, mushroom and bacon crepes with a delicious white wine we had not tried before and ended up buying two bottles to take back. Probably not the best idea to cycle after vino but we considered the route back a safe one and it ...

So we left there for Orleans (pronounced oh-lee-ons). Wow. This place was a surprise. It's so lovely. And clean. And the cathedral here is off the chart. We got Orleans late-ish but went for a bit of a stroll to find dinner. That's when we stumbled across the cathedral. Normally it would be closed at that time but there was a military orchestra concert on. So for 5 euro we got to hear beautiful music in the most beautiful location. Scored!!!!
