    ... the classic masterpieces, but there are some less well known works that I loved too. It is humbling to stand in front of a picture so familiar, and be able to see the brush-strokes. His layering of paint was often wet on wet, so the colours mixed on the canvas, rather than the palette. I love the contours of his paintings, the way the corn sheaths curl and the birds fly.

    There was a lot of correspondence too; old letters and messages, written in a variety ...

    ... was shown at the end of the exhibit touched home, "The book was turned to the page with Anne Frank's name, but what got me about it was the fact that right beneath her name there were four Aron Franks.     ... leeks as well! And a very interesting side...RHUBARB! Now I love rhubarb so I ordered it. The best way to describe it would be...strawberry rhubarb pie filling with raisins instead of strawberries. The weirdest thing. Don't order it if given the chance.

    Tomorrow we have a driving tour of the area and them a trip through one of the museums...and hopefully some good food!


    Day 41: Sleep, Sleep, and More Sleep

    Laziest day of the trip for sure. We had a walking tour in the morning followed by a trip to the Ann Frank house, I slept through both. And continued to sleep until about noon. I crawled downstairs to get some wifi and possibly some food when I ran into Sara and went to get food with her just down the street. Had some really delicious asparagus soup and then came back and crawled right back ...

In fact, it seems that bicycles dominate the entire city. Cycle paths are segregated from the main road to protect cyclists from car drivers. However, it would appear that this is often at the expense of pavements for pedestrians. In fact, I think Amsterdam must be one of the most dangerous cities ...
