... and look very picturesque. In Annecy, we wandered around sans carte like genuine world travelers, and actually managed to do well on our own. We decided to opt out of sitting down to try raclettes, and instead went to a grocery store and bought the ingredients (potatoes and cheese) to make it at "home". ... f' and clearly said " Cates Folliet" and what I thought translated to Cate's Folly. Quick research on tables in near vicinity showed their saucers all said " Cafes". Just a coincidence probably, but it did make me think. But I smiled inwardly thinking of Cate's mischievous sense of humour. As well as sometimes being very naughty, she was very spiritual. So, who knows?

Of course I stopped for some reflection on past NYEs, but the pace was such that I didn't have much of an opportunity. The night went so fast it was midnight and then 2.00 am seemingly in a flash. When we left the party was still in full swing and apparently went on until daylight.

The pretty village of Thone with its amazing Christmas lights which we visited on the way home from our Christmas Eve dinner in La Clusaz was now heavy with snow so we returned after dark to see how it might have changed. It's a charming village and the snow certainly added more charm.

... being 19kms, over which you gain 1500m in altitude to the peak at 2000m. Slightly higher than anything you can climb back home, with Thredbo topping out about 1800m and Charlotte's Pass about 1950m. So pretty high, remembering the core of my climbing and altitude training was done on Ainslie at a humble 846m!
