... are the cemeteries so I take her across the road to where the newer mausoleums are. Beyond that was the cemetery. I convinced her to defer the call to coffee to have a look. As she enters the gates, she looks around and wants to know where the Von Trapp family are hiding. It reminded her of a scene from The Sound of Music. The cemetery has fresh cut and growing flowers on almost every grave and mausoleum. The month of November (Holy Souls) explains this. Either end ...

... Expensive at 70€ with a bottle of red but great food. Porcini funghi pasta and fish in a strong tomato and olive sauce finished with a creme brûlée - best meal yet. Rain all night and predicted to get worse and stay for few days so no point staying here, nothing to do in the rain. Prefer to spend wet day in train and come back when it's fine. On Sunday we visited Bergamo, a beautiful city made from two parts - the 'cittą alta' which is situated up at the top of the town, and the 'cittą bassa' which is lower down.

It is a really beautiful city! The 'bassa' part is alive and bustling with people, lots of tourists when we were there! The 'alta' part is what the family really wanted to show me though, and I don't blame them! It is STUNNING. We had to walk up many, many steps to get up the hill, ...
