Spotted a hot air balloon from the front of the Villa. Decided to drive the < 20 km to Pisa. Nice drive along the Tuscan countryside with narrow roads in a LH drive vehicle on the RH side of the road! Had a look at the Tower & purchased tickets to climb it. That was fun! Not as tall as I thought it would be. Also had a look through the Duomo - Cathedral, Pisa. Not as impressive as the Bascilica at Lyon.Dropped into our favourite local supermarket for supplies & back to Villa ...

Paul to the rescue

... Paul to the rescue. On a shopping excursion to the supermarket, he had found a nondescript building that obviously housed some kind of shop, so went in to investigate. Then couldn't get out. Think large Ikea store with the one way system enforced by walls of products. Had to walk every isle before finding the exit. However, while searching for the exit, found a clothes horse and some coathangers. Not a terribly romantic gift, but one that was ...

Pleasant enough place. Full of old buildings but so is most of the Italy I've been through. Got more shops than anywhere else. And bikes everywhere. ... the duomo and the baptistery. But, as I mentioned, there were hoards of people and more tacky tourist stands than you could shake a stick or a plastic Pisa at, so we got out of there pretty quickly. At the end of the day, we were all glad we saw it in person. There was a long discussion about why something so poorly constructed would be so famous and the endless possibilites for screwing something up with good results. ...

So the week of school is almost over as I'm just getting used to it. Most of my classmates say for at least 2 weeks which I think is a good idea. The Lucca school is pretty flexible, and realises we are all on holidays... So all the classes pretty much go from 9.15 to 1pm, and then have a break and an activity later in the afternoon, so the straight language classes are not too expensive...€225 per week or €345 for 2 weeks.
