we started on our bus ride to Lucca! the buses they have us travel on are always sooo nice! After an hour and a half bus ride we arrived to Lucca to do a tour of the historical part of the city. It was beautiful, very similar to Florence but a bit less car traffic. There are still walls from the 1200s that surround the historical city, but the city of Lucca ...

I'll trade you Pisa for Lucca any day!

... helmets. After much confusion, we rode off without a helmet. David kept saying 'let those who ride, decide'.

Which apparently was a California thing and which he failed to buy me on a tshirt in one of the markets in Florence. I am only forgiving him because he laughed at me, called me a bogan, and said he'd buy me one in Australia. Which is a backhanded, or not so much, compliment to Australians.

... were resting on the hills creating a beautiful vista over the terracotta roofs. This was the highlight of my day.

A visit to the Basilica of Santa Croce, the resting place of Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli capped off the Florence chapter. Mid afternoon saw us on the trip to Lucca by train, a lovely walled city built in the 16th century. We are staying in a three-bedroom apartment. All mod cons except for WIFI. ...

... amp; visited the museums with his intricate drawings & inventions from the late 1400's - he was born 1452 passed away 1519. We also experienced his home & church - lovely small town with Tuscan views. We have a new respect & admiration for this great man of his time plus a new appreciation of his famous paintings and drawings ie: Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, The Vitruvian Man. etc.

Would have done walk to Corniglia but it was closed due to land slip Lots of teenagers swimming, ferries coming and going. All filled to capacity. Train to Monterosso delayed by half an hour.
