GREAT PLACE - BOOK IT
from A TripAdvisor User on 2005-01-08
Just arrived back from a weekend break in Rome and I dont know why there are any negaitve reviews about this hotel. The rooms were a good size and nicer than rooms I have stayed in in the States. WE stayed in room 22, we had a big bathroom and a shared terrace. The room had good lighting too. The location of the hotel was excellent. Five miuntes walk to the trevi fountain and 10 mins walk to spanish steps, the metro station is also two minutes up the road as well as a taxi rank. It only cost 27 euro to get back to the airport in a taxi but dont arrange it through the front desk as they add onto the cost. They said it would cost 50 euro. Food for breakfast was good too. All in all I would recommend it.
Loved the Antica Rome

We were in Rome over Thanksgiving week 2004. The Antica Roma was our first European hotel and frankly, I don't know what people complain about! The room was a bit smaller than American Hotel rooms, but not tiny-- kingsized bed, dresser, desk, and a loveseat, with room to walk around. Very nice sized closet, too. The only thing tiny about the room was the shower-- also, it had one of those showerheads on the flexible hose and if you weren't careful to point it away from the opening you got sprayed with very, very hot water when you tried to turn it on. The room, though small, was lovely and much, much nicer than what you would get at even a nice hotel in America-- brocade-paneled walls, pretty bed covers, and a very nice bathroom (complete with bidet!). The people at the front desk all speak impeccible English, and even if they weren't terribly friendly they were always polite. This hotel is less than a block away from the Barberini metro stop, and about a 5 minute walk to Trevi Fountain. Lots of good restaurants around, and The Albert pub (great place to rest your tired feet) is just across the street. Also, while the hotel does not have an Internet station, there is an internet cafe next to the metro stop, which makes it easy to check in with folks back home.

Definitely a good Choice

Dec. '04 Just back from a long weekend in Rome with my husband.
Hotel was very central and adequate. The room was bigger than
I expected having read alot of reviews on Hotels in Rome saying
rooms very small. The bathroom was spacious, all marble and no
problem with hot water. Room cleaned and fresh towels everyday.
Breakfast was wide ranging, from cereal to chocolate cake, plenty
of everything. Lift was handy as our room was on 4th floor and
stairs a killer with tired legs after all the walking, sightseeing and
shopping. We had a room in the back, when you opened the
windows you could hear the city noise but once closed it was very
quiet. I would recommend the hotel because it was very central
for shopping and sightseeing and also metro stop up the road.
You could get the Metro from Termini Station to Barberni as only
down the road from this stop. We got a taxi from Termini and were
ripped off. Also first day went to a pizzeria up the street and were
really ripped off. Advise not to go into any eating establishment where
they literally drag you off the street with promises of best meal in Rome. Found a lovely place just up from the Trevi Fountain called
'Il Chanti' I think, very nice, full of Italians and very reasonable.
Great Location

My wife and I stayed at the Residenza Antica for 2 nights in June 2002 during our honeymoon. The hotel's location is fantastic and well taken care of. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, well furnished, and included a shared balcony. We loved the hotel and would stay there again.
Okay, but small and dark
from A TripAdvisor User on 2004-10-12
We traveled to several cities in Italy, and I have to admit, this was my least favorite hotel. It is not that it is horrible, it is just old, small and dark. Everything from floor to ceiling, even the doors is covered in thick fabric. The bathroom is incredibly small with a shower that is only big enough for a small to medium sized adult. A large or tall adult would not be able to fit in it. Also, our bathroom had no electrical outlet, which made using my hair dryer interesting. I know some folks would think it was all very cozy, but I prefer more space and light. The staff was not very helpful, but not nasty either. They certainly did not go out of their way to be helpful. We asked for a recommendation for a good restaurant for lunch. They sent us down the street to a place where the food was so/so and very expensive. I probably would not stay there again.
An absolutely delight hotel

My husband and I have stayed at Residenza Antica Roma four times in the last five years. We find that Antica Roma is ideally situated close to the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, shopping and fine restaurants. The rooms are clean, the staff is courteous, and very helpful. We highly recommend Antica Roma and always look forward to staying there on our trips to Rome.
Excellent Location

Group of twelve stayed in six rooms July 16-19, 2004. Location is excellent; 6 minutes to Trevi Fountain, 8 minutes to Spanish Steps, 15 minutes to Pantheon. Hotel spotless with very comfortable beds, air conditioning that really worked, and quiet rooms. Staff was very accomodating making good suggestions for eating in the area; Giulio's nearby was very good!! Breakfast was continental style with a good selection of pasteries, cold cereals, yogurt and meats. I would defintely stay at the Residenza Antic Roma again and would encourage others to do so.
Good location - great bed
from Purro on 2004-07-15
We stayed one night on our arrival in Rome (June 2004) and were pleased with the room and the hotel staff. Probably had one of the best beds I've ever encountered in a hotel. The room was small but adequate for two people and extremely quiet - no traffic noise. We were impressed with the breakfast (you can have chocolate cake for breakfast!).
The hotel has a convenient location near Piazza Barbarini and Trevi Fountain. The metro stop is at Piazza Barbarini but be careful on the metro. We ate at Trattoria Tritone about a block away.

The Residencia Antica Roma was located within walking distance of the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. It was very clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast buffet included was very good. The concierge was always helpful. Rome was wonderful, but our tour of Florence was too short. Our tour of Pompeii and Naples was great!
Fantastic central location and a quiet room
from A TripAdvisor User on 2004-03-31
It was easy to book the Residenza Antica through Octopus on the web. We paid around 130 Euros a night. The location is great. 5-10 mins walk to both the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps, 20 mins walk from the station. The rooms are quite large and ours had a great cast-iron king size bed and matching sofa and chairs. The windows are quad-glazed so it's very quiet (important in Rome). The bathroom was nice too, although the shower head was split a bit. Each of 3 floors has a theme with different decoration and colour scheme. The walls are all decorated with material! Breakfast was continental style with lots of choice. It's served on the 5th floor (there's a 3-person lift). My boyfriend's top tip is to ask the waitress if you want a decent espresso - the ones out of the drinks machine aren't the best, and they have a machine in the kitchen. There's no bar or evening resturant, but you're so central that it doesn't matter. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to people who want a central base and a good night's sleep.
