    ... She had the Frisian flag hanging from the balcony, and had made a little welcome sign for us. After a cup of coffee in their front room, which overlooked the boats in the canal, we had a look upstairs at family photos, then headed to our hotel to drop our bags and have dinner. So this hotel, apparently some Dutch queen used to live there, and now it's a hotel. Beautiful old building built in the 1700s (I think), our room is like a tiny apartment, I can't imagine how much it costs. ...

    Today Gitta and Paula drove us over the big Afsluitdyke! I've been wanting to see this! We stopped at the monument and took in the views. There is a monument to the man Lely who was behind the dyke being built. The dyke is 7m above average sea level and about 30km long. Quite a lot of people driving and cycling across today.     After the wonderful reunion with my iphone, we started the day with a ferry ride to Terschelling. Brian had resigned himself to the idea that he would not be kiting since the forecast did not call for any wind. In fact, it looked like it might rain. Well, it didn't rain but it was overcast.
