Portugal!

... beach. We definitely had chosen the wrong day to surf here; tide going out, steep beach! Nevertheless, there are always other beaches and it was back up the coast to Fao, where Lym (Annabelle was a little chilly) once again donned his suit and out he went. Lo and behold, was up on the first wave, and the second, the third.... Following a meal of barbecued chicken risotto ...

RAIN at Parque Nacional da Pendeda Geres

... getting to the place - one woman threatened to throw out her sat nav after taking the wrong turn numerous times. The rain continued and as the camp site only offered sites under oak trees we had a few very noisy nights with water dripping, acorns and oak apples falling on the caravan and a stream running underneath it we decided to move on.

Day 7: Rain, rain go away

... br>
Kevin got vegetable soup and I got coriander (cilantro) soup. Mine wasn't very good - it was just water with oil, bread and cilantro. Once I had some of the cilantro, I noticed it wasn't alone in the bowl. Under the bread was an egg that had been cracked open and dropped into the bowl of soup before the bread was added so it developed a round, "sunny side up" style to it. Even after the egg was broken there was still very little taste to the soup, or so Kevin ...

Days 6: Off the unbeaten track

... The roads were one lane in each direction and had lots of switchbacks which had very steep bits of land connecting them between levels.  Mysteriously, whenever we stopped we found cowpies but never saw any cows, nor did it seem likely cows would be able to make it to the areas.  I like to think they're left from cows past that used to graze on the hills before they were turned into roads.  No doubt even ghost cow poo would be smelly enough to cross between metaphysical realms ...

Four rivers and another cod

... long beaches and small rocky headlands backed by dunes and gorse-covered hills. The huge Atlantic rollers were crashing on the beach, great surfing territory. Viana is a very pleasant town, with an attractive main street and many small old alleyways with Manueline and Renaissance houses and shops. Some very grand 16th century buildings flank the main square and of course, spanning the river, is yet another double-decked ...

Drying out in Braga

... exploring Braga a bit and doing some research for Spain. Braga is a very pretty little town a nice place to stroll around, although its a shame about the massive mcdonalds right in the middle of the centre square. Tommorow we leave to go back to Lisbon for two nights before flying to madrid on Monday. Hope you are all well, please keep the messages coming. Lots of Love xxxx

My Birthday Weekend in Porto

... m slowly forgetting what that feels like. The trip turned out to be a gastronomic feast. I tried so many new things, including the francesinha - it could only be described as a giant hot sandwich, which the Heart Foundation would give a big fat cross to. It was made up of a huge slice of beef, sausages and thick ham, topped with a thick blanket of melted cheese, swimming in a rich creamy tomato sauce. Even that was too much for me ...
