    ... overcast and cool but come midday blue sky and sunshine returned.     ... to walk up the 600+ stairs to the church for penance, we did not see the need for that so we took the bus up and walked down. I feel just as rewarded.
    After lunch back at the Isabel, we were bussed to the Palace of Mateus, yes the maker of Mateus Rosé that we knew from long ago. It is still family owned. We toured the palace and the gardens, many are topiary.
    Back on the bus to Quinta da Avessada vineyard for dinner high on a plateau at 600 metres. ...

    ... shank and last night pork tenderloin, all with tasty salads, soups and vegetables. Copius quantities of wine keep the conversation lively!

    Today we visited the Quinta da Aveleda winery about 1/2 hour bus drive from the ship dock. It was formed in 1671 and is still owned and operated by the same family. After lunch we continued cruising through the Douro Valley toward Régua.

    ... to visit the Quinta do Pesseguiro winery. This winery is owned by a French fashion guy, who has way too much money. He has built this ultra modern little winery which I reckon would have cost him $5 or $6 Million. It doesn't have any pumps - everything works by gravity. The winery has 3 lifts, so if wine needs to be transferred to another tank it's simply drained into a square tank, put in the lift and taken to an upper floor ...
