Lisbon, Estremadura, Portugal cat6698... went to a Manuelian monument that was built to impress the ships coming into the harbor, then off to another monument and cathedral, and at last to the Pasteis de Belem where they make 20,000 of the famous Portugese pastry a day. Bruno told us that people aren't fat in Portugal, but everyone has diabetes, and supposedly everyone eats one of these pastries per day. They were really good.
We learned that everyone thinks that the Portugese are lazy, and they ...
Lisbon, Estremadura, Portugal chelseyineurope... was a huge tank filled with all sorts of fish, which you could see from almost every area. On the outer perimeter was all the other exhibits which included penguins, otters, and other assorted fish. We then ended the day having dinner at a pizza parlor right on the ocean.

It was an amazing trip and I really wish we could have stayed longer.

Until next time,
Amy
Lisbon, Estremadura, Portugal k07ao02... a dedicated band saw in one supermarket for cutting up the larger slabs of the stuff. Sue has offered to cook some for me but the smell is sufficiently disgusting to deter me.

The British are few and far between. We are a bit of a novelty around this part of Portugal but we did meet a young couple who were as pleased as we were to do a book exchange.

We found a leaflet advertising ...
Peniche, Estremadura, Portugal mikeandsuecuff... s not the same song in Spanish, it's quite another song entirely and personally I think it's much more interesting than ours. Of course I didn't understand very many of the words, but it didn't matter. It was almost more special that way, for him to share that with me. When the museum part was over and we left, we hadn't gone but a few steps out of the museum when we heard marching band music and someone shouting orders. Christina caved without much pressure and gave us ten minutes to ...
Lisbon, Portugal randiandersen... that looks completely out of place in such a small town passes by. That must be Batalha, I guess... I got there just in time to miss the monastery's opening hours, so I found myself a place to stay, had a walk around town and retired to watch the 'new wonders' result. Of the Portuguese 7 wonders one I had visited and the remaining six were all crammed in this week's schedule - seems I chose my route right, and just in time. For the world's 7 wonders, well... the ...
Lissabon, Portugal psteerenbergOn Monday 21st August we left Povoa de Vazim to continue South to Peniche, a journey of 135 miles. Wel left at 11.00 in the morning and arrived at 11.00 on Tuesday after 24 hours of sailing motoring and motor sailing in winds ranging from nothing to force 5 all from the North. The journey was made much more pleasant because, for the first time in 4 years, we got our electric autopilot working. This meant that all we had to do was stand watch and look out for other ...
Peniche, Portugal chickensafloat... and Cutlip killed yet another bottle of Port. The conversation was centered around Vanda's brother and his friends' studies at university. One of the guys, evidently, is a physics whiz kid. He was describing us how the physics team puts on demonstrations at local high schools and the like. They were also describing for us, how they had written and produced a student film. We were all very impressed. To drive that point home, Cutlip slurs, "Man ...
Lisbon, Portugal natecropp... called Belem, the Portugues word for Bethlehem and enjoyed a day touring an absolute beautiful Monastery and the Belem Tower. Both have been declared World Hertiage sites. The architecture is extremely ornate, it is amazing the craftsmanship of the buildings from the 15th century. Tomorrow we are heading to the coast of Portugal, to enjoy a small fishing village and to hopefully find a beach. We both miss the beaches already.
