Where to?

... arrives, probably in an hour or two.

Now I'm feeling a little remote. I'm pretty good at making the best of a situation, and dealing with the resources I have. As I haven't eaten yet today, I search a few of the nearby gardens for a bit of fruit to tide me over. Under the cover of early morning light I find a mature pomegranate tree loaded with fruit. I grab 5 of the plumpest fruits I can find and wander ...

Bull fighting

In Albufeira, we went to a Portugese bullfight, not the real deal as in they don't kill the bull, rather they stab them in the back with a bunch of arrows. I thought it was mean, especially the first bull because it was pretty much still a baby and looked scared instead of angry. Jon ...

Finally here...and it's an oasis

... shuttle bus to catch to Gatwick North terminal as the bus number and stop number printed on the ticket was completely different again to reality. Luckily, there were Network Express (bus company) on hand to save the day, but even then they didn't seem to know what was occuring and seemed to make things up as they went along anyway. We made the BA flight from Gatwick with plenty of time to spare so that's the main thing.

Another thing, I will also never again ...

Sea, sand and Sagres

... was our first choice for somewhere to appreciate said coastline, possibly as we'd been drinking the local brew for the last few weeks and it's noted for its 'end of world feel' (the town not the beer) and inaccessibility (again, the town not...). It was the inaccessibility combined with our lack of time and a gentle reminder that we were on holiday not travelling, that made our mind up for us and we were soon on a high speed tilting train ...

No Flamingoes in Faro

... into the bone-filled gloom, then shrieked and laughed when we waved at them, clearly unfazed by the hundreds of skulls and other bones within. After the Bone Chapel, we took a short train trip to the nearby town of Olhao, where we intended to take a boat out to the nearby islands which apparently were the October habitat of one third of Europe's flamingo population. Olhao is an interesting place full of interesting smells. Smells of fish, rubbish and ...

Portugal!

... miles outside of town that's actually the western-most point of Europe. We started in Sagres where we toured the big fortress there that's perched right on the edge of the cliffs overlooking the ocean. The views were gorgeous! We didn't go swimming, but the beaches were also beautiful with really white sand. We also saw a pod of dolphins swimming by a little ways off shore. The whole thing was very picturesque. After walking around the fortress we went over ...

Faro

... buggies or prams as they call them everywhere. Sometimes we would be walking down the street and half a dozen would be coming at us at one time. Jack was wanting to make a video of them and have it narrated with the British are coming, the British are coming! This area really goes out of it's way to cater to families with children, they are allowed everywhere, even in the bars. We saw babies sitting right up at the bar with their parents on the stools, I wouldn't be surprised if ...

Back to the Sunshine

... glass saying I must try it. It was reserve, so very nice he said. I couldn´t believe how nice of him it was to do that for me, so I sat back down and had some port. It was very nice. It looked and tasted like honey, which he said all reserves should. Finally after my port, I asked if I could pay him, and as he started to add up my lunch, he just rounded it off to €10, which was a few €´s less than what it should be. So I left him a nice tip and thanked him before I ...
