Portugal!

... beach. We definitely had chosen the wrong day to surf here; tide going out, steep beach! Nevertheless, there are always other beaches and it was back up the coast to Fao, where Lym (Annabelle was a little chilly) once again donned his suit and out he went. Lo and behold, was up on the first wave, and the second, the third.... Following a meal of barbecued chicken risotto ...

... without the normal care and as we were going along we suddenly realized that the caravan had become detached. Fortunately the breakaway cable had worked. We reversed and reattached her, no harm having been done. We then had to do a 50 mile detour to get to the camp site. We spoke to other camper and caravaners who had had great ...

Day 7: Rain, rain go away

After a night of heavy rain in which there was occasionally a raindrop heavy enough to splash the condensation on the inside of the tent on us, it stopped raining. We woke up, showered, got ready for a great hike, got our backpacks ready, and headed to the top of hill out of our campsite. Once at the top, it thundered. Then Kevin realized he forgot his sunglasses. We headed back to the car for the sunglasses and as the clouds looked really threatening, decided to wait for ...

Days 6: Off the unbeaten track

... The roads were one lane in each direction and had lots of switchbacks which had very steep bits of land connecting them between levels.  Mysteriously, whenever we stopped we found cowpies but never saw any cows, nor did it seem likely cows would be able to make it to the areas.  I like to think they're left from cows past that used to graze on the hills before they were turned into roads.  No doubt even ghost cow poo would be smelly enough to cross between metaphysical realms ...

Four rivers and another cod

... border between Portugal and Spain. Our campsite was idyllically sited in wooded dunes on a promontory right at the river's mouth, with sandy river beaches on one side and the Atlantic waves breaking onto the sands on the other. So far in Portugal we have had alternate weeks of good and bad weather. In Porto it was cloudy and cool with a bit of rain, so we were due a spell of sunshine - and in Caminha we got it. It was ...

In the last week we gathered all the information about Ireland from the Internet and the American Express Guide. From some travel blogs, we got some ideas, and from our expectations we came to these must sees: -Dublin -Newgrange -Belfast -Antrim coast road -Carrick-a-rede rope bridge ...

Day 8

... that looked nice and stepped in. I ordered some kind of grilled fish. I think it was something like gillhead. Well earlier in Barcelona I had swordfish grilled and it was good. This one came out as the whole fish. Not quite what I had expected. But I ate it, not worth the price in my opinion but it was something different. So nothing exciting here, carry on.
