... has been jumping up and down since we decided to go to Portugal because he was so excited to get his hands (and his mouth) on some Portuguese food. Well he wasn’t disappointed. First of all, the food is so inexpensive. None of our meals have been over 10 Euros each. The food is delicious. Pork, Chicken, Seafood. It’s all cooked wonderfully and comes with rice, fries, a small salad and a drink. Chris has been enjoying the Sumols which is an orange ...
Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal ktchris... flight there was either a person or a recording on the intercom trying to get you to buy something, and if thats not bad enough each advertisement was replayed in 5 different languages. It felt like flying in an internet porn advertisement.
Other than feeling the need for a shower after being neck deep in commercialism for an hour, the flight went swimmingly.
I arrived in Porto later in the evening, and contented myself with getting to the hostel ...

Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal carivergaIt really is a shame we already booked our flight to France from Porto. We could have easily stayed an extra week in Portugal, there is so much to see here. But we did pretty good with our 2 days in Porto. It's right on the river and the ocean, and on one side of the river are tons of cute, old tiled homes, that look across to the other side of the bank where all of the old Port ...
Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal tommcatt... city. Narrow streets tumbling down to the river with washing hanging from the windows. Lots of bridges, trams and traffic. One side of the river was the centre for the production of port. We went to one of them and sampled some of the product.
We stayed about 100 meters from the sea. Miles and miles and miles of golden sand and boardwalks. We did a lot of walking and a lot of cycling. Beautiful weather. We then moved onto Aveiro further down the coast.
We drove through the rain and Jessica (sat nav) took us up into the mountains. When she wanted us to do a sharp hairpin bend that was impossible with the caravan we had to carry on to a dead end in the road. As the rain got heavier we had to unhitch the caravan, turn round and rehitch and retrace our route. Unfortunately we did it very ...

The next day we hit the road to Porto which was a substantial drive of about 5-6 hours. Luckily this is the day the weather decided to turn, so the bad weather was endured from the comfort of the car. We arrived late to Porto and checked into our less then elegant hostel. Our meal was no better. We ...
... read the body language: they w**e obviously strang**s to one anoth**; we could int**pret they tone: they w**e having a fine old time declaiming on something; but we still had no idea what was going on. We had two plans for Porto: travel to Barcelos for the biggest market in Europe and celebrate São Joäo's Day ... oh, and sample some local product. The guidebook had me salivating ov** the potential for Feira de Barcelos. I had visions of acres of stalls laden with baskets of ...
Porto, Portugal hdhNow, Uli is sometimes a bit paranoid and likes to exaggerate when it comes to issues of safety when traveling, but this one time I swear to God she wasn't. She lived in a ghetto building with barred windows (on the third floor!!) and her tiny non-heated room did in fact look every bit like a prison cell: white brick walls not unlike the ones in the dorms at CCU, dim light, and a concrete shower basin that was in the corner of this ...
