... ridge, the Serra de Alvao, stands to the west and northwest of Vila Real, constituting a natural park, not exactly a National Park but a kind of preserve of nature and traditional lifestyles. I took a winding road that climbed steeply through the villages and then into open space with spectacular views over the towns from where I came. While the scenery is great, I have to say that what really excites me is the human interaction with ...

Glutes work out to start and finish the day! Headed out at 6 - buddy says its dry - BS is my response and in the first 50m stop to don the wet gear on the pack! He does too *giggle*

Scary stuff but we have a few hours of this.

We pass through ...

I often ponder the balance between tourist and traveler, I wonder if it matters at all, but after these two weeks I think I have a better idea. We moved fast, but thoughtfully, we tried to pay attention, tried to take in the sights and smells and wonders, ...

... the path provided lovely views and walking. Again, the walking was good although, after half an hour, the rain started and we had to suit up with wet weather gear and trudged along for a couple of hours. Despite the drizzle, the scenery was good and we made good time. Around 15km in the first three hours took us into Sarria, a town we had heard stories about. Amazing how news comes back along the trail with the information that a large group was in front ...
