More Sea and Sand

We arrived without incident after a short and pleasant journey. Odd campsite mainly permanent encampments! Most of them looked like they had been there for many years. We were entertained by families arriving over the weekend to pack up for the winter. They cleared out all the rubbish that they had accumulated over the summer. They then covered their caravan.awning and covered area with tarpaulin and tied it down and put stones ...

Hardcore Boogie Boarding

... looked like there was no order to the waves and they were crashing all over the place. The sea looked angry that day my friends. The next day, we spotted some surfers and set out to rent some boards but all the surf shops were closed (because all the owners were out surfing). The super cheap ghetto tourist shops that sell **** were open, so we opted for 2 hardcore boogie boards ...

Tin Tin and the Mystery of Manual Transmission

... that is the biggest of the year. i think it´s the ascention but i´m not sure. lots of nighttime processions and moo is very happy because she gets to drink all the blackberry liquer she bought. sounds like maneschevitz but it´s actually home brewed and suuuper yummy! today we head to madeira which is a portuguese island closer to africa than portugal. it´s another tick on my list so i don´t want to miss it even though the azores are ...

LISBON-EVORA-ALCOBACA-B ATALHA-FATIMA-COIMBRA

We left early after breakfast. The GPS proved to be blessing for 'wrong' drivers like me. As it was Christmas there was less traffic on the roads & we had a smooth drive to Evora. There we saw the Roman Temple, the church & the Chapel of St.Francis. The sleepy town had narrow lanes ...

... keltide ajal. Roomlased seadsid ennast sisse 1. saj pKr, mil see kasvas ja õitses suureks linnaks. 3. saj olid elanikud ohustatud sissetungijate eest ning ehitasid enda kaitseks linnale kaitsvad müürid ümber. Kahjuks polnud see piisav sueevidele (germaani hõimude rühmale), kellel õnnestus 468.a vallutada linn. Kohalikud põgenesid Coimbrasse, säästes sellega Conímbrigat suuremast hävingust. Seetõttu võib ...

Ülikoolilinnak

Island hoping

... everything they had on us all day long. We did climbing aloft and sail stowing drills on the slick rigging and I was very thankful for my shiny new wet weather gear, as several of the voyage crew began to complain of dampness seeping into the ship's gear after a few hours.
We set out in the afternoon with only around 6 sails set because the captain was worried about the green crew's ability to hand sail again if the weather worsened quickly (which, in fact, it did later ...

It's a bright, thriving town, a little jolt back to the reality of end-of-holiday-work-is-nearing after the general quietness and quaintness of our previous islands: Pico and Sao Jorge. The trade-off is that Faial lacks the community ...

More Than I Planned To

Hello...

I'm in Portugal now. Last I wrote was in Toledo, I think...I took a night train to Lisbon, where I stayed for one night. It's nice, as far as big cities go, but it's a big city. It's very diverse and the people are real laid back.

After that I went to Sintra, just west of Lisbon. It's a little town in the mountains. Lots of shade, green, and fresh air. I spent many more days there than I planned to. The first night I arrived ...
